"Fascinating," Commander Muri said, gazing at Ian's armor. "But there's one thing I find confusing. If humanity had already mastered technology at your level, how did the world end up like this?"

"Didn't you read my file? I died in an explosion less than a year before the war broke out, and my research was buried with me."

"First Dr. Azim, then you—looks like this world was destined for destruction," Muri muttered.

"Don't be so pessimistic. We have the toxin now, and a female White Spike. There's still hope," Ian said.

"Perhaps."

"This female is giving off a strange scent. The males can smell it and track it from hundreds of kilometers away. I've isolated it with a force field, but the moment I drop the field, they'll attack this base."

"Are you sure about that? What evidence do you have?"

"You can test it yourselves later," Ian retorted. He was telling the truth. Those alien monsters had tracked their queen and attacked this base in exactly that way. "I need access to this base's power supply. My armor can't maintain the force field for more than eight hours."

"I'll verify it first, but if what you're saying is true, that won't be a problem."
