"Don't panic yet. I'll send someone over to take a look." Although Yan Xianjue thought the whole thing was utterly fucked up, he still comforted Shen Fangli first.
Shen Fangli gave a quiet "Mm."
She found it hard to describe how she felt.
Her mother was an adult, not a child without the ability to resist like Yan Xianjue had been when he was kidnapped.
But in the video she had just received, her mother was sitting there with her clothes neat and tidy, not the least bit disheveled.
Compared to being kidnapped, it looked more like... she was cooperating with the kidnappers to lure Shen Fangli over.
Shen Fangli closed her eyes. She truly did not want to face that possibility.
But reality told her she had no choice.
She could not take risks, and she especially could not risk Yan Xianjue.
But she also could not completely abandon her mother based on nothing but a suspicion.
What if it was real? What if her mother had been tricked into going there too?
If she did not go, would her mother be in danger?
She rubbed her face and voiced her suspicion in a fragile tone. "Yan Xianjue, I suspect she wasn't kidnapped. I suspect she did it on purpose."
Yan Xianjue listened quietly, using his other hand to gesture for Ji Xi to call Uncle Lu upstairs.
As Ji Xi went off to handle it, Lin Shi set down the fountain pen he had just picked up, its cap still on, and walked straight over to Yan Xianjue. He mouthed one word: speaker.
The first thing Lin Shi heard was, "So should I call the police now?"
Lin Shi and Yan Xianjue both fell silent.
Take back what they had said earlier about Shen Fangli not being stupid.
