"What do you want? Are you trying to force a confession!"
Chen Dun was terrified, but he still put on an act of knowing nothing and being wronged. No matter what Zhao Lei asked, he insisted he was innocent.
Zhao Lei interrogated him for half an hour, but the man still maintained that he knew nothing.
Helpless, Zhao Lei got up and left the interrogation room. Continuing to question him was useless; he had to go back and think of another way.
"This guy is really tight-lipped, won't say anything. Captain Zhou, do you have any way to pry his mouth open?" Zhao Lei asked Zhou Yaning.
Their departments were different; she might have a solution.
Unless he used some special methods, he couldn't get Chen Dun to talk. Zhao Lei hesitated, wondering if he should use some special interrogation techniques on him, afraid that something might happen to the man and he still wouldn't get any information.
The investigation at the hotel was clear: Chen Dun had booked the room, but he was at his home, and the room card hadn't been found yet. Zhao Lei didn't believe for a second that he was innocent.
Not wanting to resort to torture for the time being, Zhao Lei could only ask Zhou Yaning for advice.
"Just use an Esper. I'll have someone come and read his memories!" Zhou Yaning didn't have much patience and planned to use a special method to obtain information.
"An Esper... read memories? We have someone like that?"
"Yes, I'll report to the leader immediately and have him come help." Zhou Yaning sent a message to the bureau chief, asking the Investigation Bureau to send someone to assist in the case.
Since there was a solution, everyone waited in the monitoring room.
Chen Dun sat alone in the interrogation room, feeling uneasy. He saw several cameras above and couldn't help shouting at them.
"Let me go!"
"This is illegal! I want to see your leader!"
"You wait, you're abusing your power! I'm going to report this! I'm going to report this to the central government!"
Chen Dun's voice came from the speakers, annoying everyone, but they couldn't turn off the sound and could only listen to him shout. It wasn't until he was exhausted after shouting for more than ten minutes that he stopped.
An hour later, the person who could read memories arrived.
Three people came, two men and one woman. The girl in the middle looked very young, like she was still in school.
"Which of you is the Esper?" Zhao Lei asked them.
The young girl raised her hand slightly: "I... I am."
"Come with me. Do you need help reading memories? Will the person being read die?"
"I need someone to help me hold down the target. He won't die, but he'll be uncomfortable for a long time."
Knowing that the person wouldn't be killed, Zhao Lei was relieved and immediately led the person to the interrogation room. Everyone returned to their seats to wait for the new round of interrogation to begin.
"Hey! What do you want to ask again! You're perverting the law!"
Seeing the police come in, Chen Dun, his mouth dry, started shouting again.
Zhao Lei ignored his shouts and signaled his subordinates to go up and hold him down. Chen Dun sensed something was wrong and tried to struggle, but he was held down tightly.
"If you don't want to talk, then we can only find it ourselves. Don't worry, we won't let you die!"
Zhao Lei showed no courtesy, holding the man down and letting the Esper read his memories.
Chen Dun looked at the approaching masked person in horror. As he watched the person reach out and place their hand on his forehead, he was about to say something when suddenly a force rushed into his brain. Chen Dun opened his mouth but couldn't speak.
The interrogation room and monitoring room were silent, everyone watching the girl.
Ten minutes later, the girl withdrew her hand. She waved her hand, and Zhao Lei had his subordinates help her out. He was about to go forward to see how Chen Dun was doing when suddenly Chen Dun rolled his eyes back and made 'ee-ah, ee-ah' sounds.
Before Zhao Lei could ask him what was wrong, Chen Dun bent over and started vomiting on the ground.
With a 'wah' sound, foul-smelling vomit spewed from Chen Dun's mouth.
The scene was chaotic. Zhao Lei was worried that something might happen and didn't dare to leave. The people in the monitoring room saw this and quickly called for a doctor to come and take a look.
After the doctor arrived, Chen Dun stopped vomiting, his upper body slumped on the table, listless.
The doctor carefully examined him and confirmed that he was not in danger, just very weak and in need of rest and nutrition.
With no life-threatening danger, Zhao Lei relaxed and had a few people carry him to the medical room. He hurried back to the monitoring room, wanting to know immediately what memories the Esper had retrieved.
In the monitoring room, the girl's condition wasn't very good either. She was tired and looked a little weak.
When Team Leader Zhao returned, she slowly recounted the memories she had obtained.
"I saw a lot of people. I was talking to them, talking about kidnapping, needing a lot of people... They want to kidnap the Mayor's Daughter, a dozen people... a lot. They said they're hiding in the West City Suburbs... I want them to give me the Godblood Stone. Once the thing arrives, I'll agree to help them... Stone, man, woman... My son needs money... My wife also said she wants..."
The memories the girl obtained were numerous and chaotic, mostly incoherent, but there was a lot of key information.
They could confirm that this guy was inextricably linked to the kidnappers, at the very least an accomplice.
"West City Suburbs... the same direction we're tracking. Quickly treat Chen Dun, I want to interrogate him thoroughly!"
Having obtained key intelligence, Zhao Lei and the others were very excited. After instructing people to treat Chen Dun, Zhao Lei asked the girl if there was any other information.
"A man, with a fierce look, a knife scar on the corner of his left eye, and a black snake tattoo on his right forearm..."
Everyone listened very carefully. This was likely one of the kidnappers. Zhao Lei noted these characteristics and immediately had people look for him.
Learning that the targets might be hiding in the west of the city, they set off for the west of the city without stopping.
Lu Chengchuan got into the car with Zhou Yaning and the others. He didn't have much presence tonight. First, he didn't know how to investigate and didn't understand the details. Second, his job here was very simple: if he encountered kidnappers, he would just go up and arrest them; he didn't need to do anything else.
In the car, as they were heading towards the West City Suburbs, Lu Chengchuan's phone rang.
It was his personal phone, and the call was from Gu Mingwei. It was almost ten at night, so why was Gu Mingwei calling him at this hour? Was something wrong?
Lu Chengchuan glanced at Zhou Yaning. Seeing that she didn't react, he pressed the answer button.
"Boss Gu, what's the matter?"
"Mr. Lu, my daughter has been kidnapped! Can you please help me find her!"
The voice on the phone was frantic. His daughter had been kidnapped, and Gu Mingwei was so anxious that he hadn't even called the police, instead directly seeking help from Lu Chengchuan.
"Kidnapped... when did this happen?"
As soon as Lu Chengchuan heard the word "kidnapped," he knew something was wrong. The others in the car also perked up their ears.
"It happened an hour ago. My daughter was abducted in the west of the city, and I only just found out. Mr. Lu, I beg you, please, help me."
"Don't worry, I'll help you. Boss Gu, you should go to the police and tell them everything. I'll also help you search around here."
Lu Chengchuan agreed to help. He was going to investigate this matter anyway.
"Where was she kidnapped?" After offering a few words of comfort, Lu Chengchuan inquired about the details.
Gu Mingwei told him everything he knew, without holding anything back. He even speculated that his business rivals had kidnapped his daughter.
Lu Chengchuan told him to go to the police, wait patiently, and then hung up the phone.
