After completing the unexpectedly lax registration procedures, Agatha and I entered the lunar commercial street.
Seeing the obtrusive illuminated ad box at the entrance, I couldn't help complaining.
"The dregs of human civilization reached the moon before humans did. Weren't the streets better when they were clean?"
Agatha understood what I meant and even retorted:
"Dregs and all that... isn't that a bit harsh? Money is still necessary!"
"The idea that 'money is necessary' is a mistaken belief implanted in you by those who control money. In truth, money itself has no value. It's merely a medium for completing transactions."
"Yeah, yeah, sure."
Yet Agatha couldn't relate to what I was saying at all.
Only someone who had truly been poor like me could understand how terrifying money was.
"So, not many shops here are open either. Are there just too few people?"
When Agatha asked that, I answered, "There really aren't many residents, but in the end, only those who are human on the inside would open shops. As for Monsters and Modified Witches who used to be Monsters, they wouldn't be interested in running a store."
"You can't say that for sure. Isn't the owner of that grocery store over there a rabbit Monster?"
"Negative Variants transformed from humans also look like Monsters. You can't tell where someone was born just by looking at them... Oh-ho, found it."
The water bar's neon sign came into view, its lush green lettering flashing brightly.
"The shop is called Wizard of Oz?"
A drink shop run by snake, scorpion, and insect Monsters that belonged in a rainforest had such a fairy-tale-like name. It felt rather out of place.
There wouldn't be any cocktails mixed with snake venom, right?
"Oh~ Those guys did a pretty decent job?"
Since we had fought together
