The little shop sold clothes for Monsters, so the sizes varied enormously.
Clothing from the Other Side had little in the way of flashy decoration, but plenty of pockets. It was utilitarian to the extreme. The fabric, which I couldn't identify, barely creased and looked rather crisp, almost like a military uniform.
The Monster tending the shop was only as tall as a little girl, but looked like a rat, with a furry face.
Still, it didn't have a rat's pointy snout and pinched features. Instead, it was round and rather chubby.
Oh, perhaps I should have called it a dark gray hamster?
Perhaps because I'd seen too many Modified Witches, I'd even started imagining what it would look like as a witch... There was probably something wrong with me.
"T-two magical girls. Um, w-would you like to look at the clothes here?"
The Rat Monster hesitated when it saw Mom and me enter.
Still, it steeled itself and came over to greet us. After all, Monsters hadn't been doing business for long, and it didn't seem to know much about serving customers.
Mom said, "You're a salesperson, aren't you? Aren't you going to recommend anything?"
"I don't really know how to make recommendations."
The Rat Monster rubbed its little paws together and said in a soft, squeaky voice:
"I used to oversee the clothing production line, but after production of Fusion Soldiers stopped, we had surplus clothes, so I thought I'd sell them..."
So these clothes were issued to the Monster Soldiers?
"But business has been terrible, right?"
Mom went straight for the sore spot. The Rat Monster looked embarrassed, but nodded anyway.
Mom offered her advice.
"Listen! If you want to sell to magical girls and witches, you should make the clothes a little prettier and more refined.
