[Hello. Can we be friends?]
Looking at the delicate handwriting on the note, Nan Jiayu was at a complete loss.
On the very first day of her freshman year, she had been late for an entire class. She had only rushed in during the second period, when the classroom was nearly out of seats.
Then she happened to spot a fluffy little Golden Fox curled up in the corner. Curious, she had gathered her courage and approached.
She never expected to be hit with such a devastating opening move.
"F-f-f-friends... then... of course..."
The petite catgirl's cheeks flushed bright red. The refusal she had instinctively wanted to give caught in her throat, and after stammering for a long while, she only managed an incomplete reply.
The adorable little fox before her wore a brilliant smile, radiant as the bright moon, dazzling Nan Jiayu so much she could barely keep her eyes open.
She pulled out her phone and added her as a friend with quick, efficient movements.
"Hello."
Seeing the message pop up on her phone, Nan Jiayu became even more nervous.
"Hello."
"My name is Su Tianqing. What's yours?"
Su Tianqing...
Remembering the strange Foxfolk tradition of all taking the surname Su, Nan Jiayu did not think much of the name.
"Nan Jiayu. Nice to meet you."
"That's a lovely name."
Seeing those words on the screen, the catgirl's fingers trembled violently twice. The fur on her cat tail puffed up in a ring, and even the tip of her nose was tinged red.
"Thanks." After a long silence, she finally typed those two words with trembling fingers.
.
After class, Su Tianqing gently waved as she watched the petite catgirl, red-faced as she said goodbye, leave the classroom.
What was that phrase again? Easily handled!
How could Cat-Cat possibly withstand such a passionate offensive? Especially when she was an adorable little fox now. The advantage was hers!
After casually packing up her textbooks, she tensed her tail as usual and stretched her body. Fox Fox flopped onto the desk, once more collapsing into a furry ball.
It felt as if the long-lost days of youth had returned to her side. This feeling was actually pretty nice.
But on closer thought, that catgirl seemed to have carried a peculiar aura. Was it just her imagination?
After thinking for a long time without figuring out what that aura was, Su Tianqing simply gave up.
It was nearly lunchtime now, and the classroom quickly emptied out. Fox Fox pulled out the Codex from her shoulder bag, spread it open across her knees, and eagerly flipped to the task page.
[Task complete: Obtain a magical girl codename, Wish]
The burdensome follower task and codename task had both been completed. Together with the two daily tasks that had successfully wrapped up yesterday, the number of Divine Codex Stones in her pocket had risen from a precarious 100 to 1,000. That was practically a fortune!
The anonymous account "Magical Girl Fox Fox Official" had already gained 500 followers. With the Rongcheng Hero Association's announcement released, the number of fans flocking to it was still steadily rising.
Su Tianqing was in an excellent mood, and her tail wagged wildly.
Flipping forward two pages, Fox Fox did not immediately check today's tasks. Instead, she looked first at the Divine Codex Stone shop page in the Codex.
These were the important things!
As a villain, relying on the same method to deal with the legitimate magical girls over and over would never work. Only by constantly changing things up could she achieve the best results.
For example, this expensive little gadget she had noticed yesterday was completely to Su Tianqing's taste:
[Magic Power Detector: 500 Divine Codex Stones]
[Detect nearby magic power fluctuations and accurately determine the locations of monsters and magical girls.]
This was an artifact among artifacts!
Perhaps to look after a newbie like her, the Codex had given her information about a monster appearing when she first started. It had not displayed anything yesterday, so she guessed the free trial had expired.
If she could reliably use this ability to predict when monsters would appear, Su Tianqing could already think of at least ten different ways to play things out.
As for what to buy with the remaining 500 Divine Codex Stones...
[River Crab Catching Device: 100 Divine Codex Stones]
[Passive Skill: Your videos will never be taken down.]
Buy it!
Without the slightest hesitation, Su Tianqing made the purchase. She pulled out her phone, opened her video account, and swiftly uploaded the original video again.
Let's see who can take down my video now!
After flipping through a few more pages, Fox Fox decided to stop for now.
The gadgets further in all looked rather interesting, but she did not yet know what effects they could produce in combination. She would save her Divine Codex Stones for now. There was plenty of time, after all. First, she should check today's tasks.
She turned to the task page, where several lines of text leaped into view.
[Daily Task 1: Rest. Completed.]
[The magical girls seem tired. Go do something for yourself today.]
[Reward: 100 Divine Codex Stones]
Huh?
Her fox ears perked up, then drooped back down onto her head.
What? She had thought there would be some exciting follow-up task today. So Hyacinth was already tired?
That was fine too. They were students, after all. If she played too hard and made them retire from being magical girls altogether, then what kind of villain would she have left to be?
Fox Fox sat up straight and let out a long breath.
She had also wanted to experience college life again, at least a little. Since she could relax to her heart's content today, she might as well give herself a day off!
She could wander around nearby, try some of this world's local snacks, and perhaps make plans for her future life while she was at it.
After all, being a Villain Magical Girl would not put food on the table. What would she do if she could not even make ends meet?
With that thought, Su Tianqing pulled out her phone and took a look.
The novel she had submitted internally yesterday had passed review. She could go shopping nearby this afternoon, pick up some daily necessities while she was at it, then go home in the evening and write to earn some food money. Life was full and wonderful.
"Grrr—"
Her stomach issued a solemn protest.
Su Tianqing closed the Codex and turned off her phone. Slinging her shoulder bag over herself, she stood up and rose lightly onto her toes, as though making up her mind.
Right, she would eat at the university cafeteria for lunch. Cheap, plentiful, and filling.
Fox Fox turned and took a step.
But before she could even take that first step, she caught a glimpse of a deep-blue figure hurriedly ducking away at the classroom door.
Catgirl Nan Jiayu. Had she not left ages ago? Why was she still here?
Seeing this, Su Tianqing tiptoed over to the door and suddenly poked her head out, meeting the gaze of the deep-blue catgirl hiding behind it.
"Meowaaah?!"
The catgirl was scared out of her wits, all her fur standing on end.
"Hehe, did I scare you?" Fox Fox grinned mischievously as she hopped out from behind the door. "I thought you'd already left. Were you waiting here for me?"
"Ah... um..."
Facing this sunny, cheerful Golden Fox who had directly made her move, Nan Jiayu's cheeks turned red as she had no idea how to answer.
She had actually intended to leave right away.
But the inexplicably alluring aura around Su Tianqing had made Nan Jiayu stop. As if bewitched, she had turned back to the classroom door and quietly watched the golden-furred Fox Fox remain in the classroom after class, flipping through a strange book.
Watching her ears occasionally perk high into the air, the catgirl's curiosity only grew stronger.
And so she had waited until now.
The golden-furred Fox Fox took half a step back, lightly tapping her toes against the floor. Her tail slowly swayed behind her, and her emerald eyes were clear and bright.
"In that case, want to go eat together?"
It was an enthusiastic invitation from an adorable little fox. There was simply no way to refuse.
