Ch. 582Why Do You Think They're Villains?

Summary: "Why Do You Think They're Villains?"

1. Key Plot Points and Events

  • Heartmoon Fox (Su Tianqing) and Scarlet Snow awaken in a new Mindscape—a modern city that initially seems peaceful. Both are wearing casual civilian outfits instead of their usual attire.
  • An intense gunfight suddenly erupts, and Fenrir arrives in a bullet-riddled sports car, fleeing police and armed pursuers while shooting back. Alice and little Jack are in the car providing suppressive fire.
  • Su Tianqing and Scarlet Snow are forced to jump in and join a high-speed chase across an overpass, culminating in Fenrir driving half-sideways along a guardrail to break through a police barricade.
  • Fenrir loses the pursuing helicopter by escaping through the sewers, then brings the group to a luxury high-rise apartment hideout.
  • Fenrir, Alice, and little Jack reveal this Mindscape is based on the video game Grand Theft Auto (GTA). Their investigation points to "decay and chaos" beneath the Diamond Casino—the location where Garuda's clues may lead.
  • The plan is laid out: they must rob the Diamond Casino. Scarlet Snow, realizing this, finally understands her companions are criminals here—and that she's now part of it.

2. Character Developments

  • Scarlet Snow: Demonstrates gamer knowledge, immediately recognizing the GTA setting. She's practical and unwilling to panic, but visibly unsettled by being drawn into open criminal activity.
  • Heartmoon Fox (Su Tianqing): Playful, curious, and easily distracted; she admires her own outfit and calls Fenrir "Doggie" despite being corrected. She's a source of comedic relief amid chaos.
  • Fenrir: Introduced as a reckless, confident getaway driver who insists "I'm a wolf," not a dog. She's apparently been banned from driving in previous Mindscapes (implying past incidents).
  • Little Jack: A woman of few words, efficient and skilled with firearms. She equips Scarlet Snow with a gun and teaches her to use mana bullets.
  • Alice: Competent in combat, calm, and helpful (offering cola in the hideout).

3. Significant Themes

  • Ambiguous villainy: The chapter's title reflects Scarlet Snow's realization that the group is unequivocally doing something criminal (a casino heist), even for a righteous cause (investigating Garuda). The line between "heroes" and "villains" blurs in a game-world setting.
  • Chaos and adaptation: The magical girls must quickly adapt to modern-world violence and game mechanics rather than relying solely on magic.
  • World-hopping as game worlds: The Mindscape is explicitly modeled on a video game, emphasizing the "worlds as stages" nature of the setting—and that moral rules differ within them.

4. Character Interactions

  • Su Tianqing and Scarlet Snow exchange banter about each other's fashion choices, establishing a casual, teasing friendship.
  • Fenrir is repeatedly called "Doggie" by Su Tianqing and gives increasingly frustrated "I'M A WOLF!" responses.
  • Little Jack nonverbally communicates with Scarlet Snow (handing her a submachine gun and a red hood, signaling her to shoot), showing she's efficient and pragmatic.
  • The group functions smoothly as a team during the chase: Fenrir drives, Alice and little Jack suppress the enemy, and the newcomers are forced to contribute.

  • While the others recognize the challenge as a fun, game-like objective, Scarlet Snow is baffled by the idea of cooking monsters. After learning the anime premise, she reluctantly joins in.
  • Scarlet Snow prepares a Sichuan-style stir-fry from a half-bull-horse monster. The others taste it and praise her cooking, though she still cannot bring herself to try it.
  • The group collaborates on a nine-dish monster feast. Scarlet Snow handles the main cooking, Heartmoon Fox chooses dishes and films the process, Alice and Little Jack help with preparation, and Fenrir assists with ingredients and seasoning.
  • Fenrir adds magically fermented drinks, while Alice contributes a comically strange Stargazy Pie. The objective accepts the feast: the food vanishes, a satisfied burp sounds from the darkness, and the gate opens.
  • Beyond the gate, the group finds the object they have been seeking: an enormous egg covered in black markings.

Ch. 589More People, More Ideas

Key plot points and events

  • The Magical Girls’ Round Table reviews Scarlet Snow and Heartmoon Fox’s battle with the Obsidian Winged Folk, which they defeated before it could cast an unknown spell.
  • Mercury recalls seeing a fragment said to be Garuda’s eggshell. Comparing this with reports from several Phantasm Dream Mindscapes, the group concludes that Garuda’s eggs are deeply significant: hatching one creates a powerful manifestation and strengthens Garuda’s invasion.
  • Inari points out a major contradiction: the beings emerging from the eggs take very different forms, even though magical projections are normally required to resemble their source. The group cannot yet explain why.
  • Red Rose states the firmest conclusion they can draw: Garuda has breached the barrier between the Star Realm and Mortal World, but Heartmoon Fox’s Mindscape has trapped it in the space between the Firmament and the Mindscape.
  • Rather than waiting for another attack, the group proposes entering Marigold’s and a prospective newcomer’s Mindscapes in advance. Their goal is to lie in wait and ambush Garuda when it arrives.

Character developments and interactions

  • Heartmoon Fox/Su Tianqing is eager to take action and presents the plan confidently, despite her growing concern about the conflicting evidence.
  • Inari provides a careful, incisive analysis, identifying the key inconsistency among Garuda’s manifestations and helping develop the operation.
  • Red Rose guides the meeting, establishes what can be concluded, and backs the younger girls’ plan while allowing them to explain it.
  • Mercury contributes a potentially important clue about Garuda’s eggshell, though she regrets dismissing the story when she first heard it.
  • Aquamarine voices the practical concern that the team cannot control whom Garuda targets; Red Rose answers by showing how prepared Mindscapes could give them a way to act on their own terms.
  • The many gathered Magical Girls listen and debate together. In a lighter moment, Jack-in-the-Pulpit offers Marigold a preserved plum; Marigold finds it painfully sour, unlike Jack-in-the-Pulpit, who eats several with ease.

Significant themes

  • Uncertainty and conflicting evidence: The team has strong clues but no complete explanation for Garuda’s different forms, making the threat harder to predict.
  • Collective problem-solving: Reports, memories, and expertise from a large group are combined to build a working theory and plan.
  • Taking initiative: The group shifts from reacting to attacks to preparing an ambush inside likely target Mindscapes.
  • Courage amid danger: Despite the unresolved mysteries and risks, the Magical Girls choose to confront Garuda proactively.

Ch. 590The Past, Gone Like Smoke

Plot points

  • The Round Table Conference assigns volunteers to watch every remaining Mindscape, hoping to observe Garuda’s next invasion and learn how it operates. The plan is costly but possible with Red Rose’s support.
  • Hyacinth draws Foxkov as her post and complains that the draw was rigged; Iris and Nightingale shut her down. The other volunteers disperse to explore Rongcheng until the operation begins that night.
  • Su Tianqing reviews the bizarre Mindscapes created by Marigold and Shasha and worries their challenges may complicate the surveillance plan.
  • Su Tianqing and Inari keep secret their discovery that Shasha’s gaze may determine Garuda’s victims. Instead, Su Tianqing and Nan Jiayu visit the Beastfolk Mutual Aid Association to learn about Shasha’s past from her father.
  • Sparrow Dad recognizes the pair. With Messiah facilitating, he agrees to speak and recounts meeting his wife as a teenager, their courtship and marriage, and the growth of their village. His story turns sorrowful as he recalls an incident about 1X years earlier: a rock destroyed their gate, leaving a crater around a huge, black-patterned egg.

Character developments and interactions

  • Su Tianqing balances strategic concern with compassion: she doubts the Mindscape plan but chooses to trust the volunteers, while carefully investigating Shasha’s background without spreading potentially prejudicial information.
  • Nan Jiayu accompanies Su Tianqing and asks whether Shasha’s father will cooperate, acting as her practical counterpart.
  • Sparrow Dad (Mr. Zhizhi) shifts from nervousness to warm, wistful reminiscence. His affection for his wife is clear, though grief surfaces as he describes the egg’s arrival.
  • Messiah helps establish trust, presenting the visitors as reliable sponsors and gently inviting Sparrow Dad to share his family history.
  • Hyacinth remains prickly and anti-fox, but her complaint is treated as comic relief against the larger operation.

Significant themes

  • Trust and cooperation: The volunteers’ coordinated deployment depends on support across factions, while Su Tianqing relies on trust rather than trying to control every risk.
  • Careful truth-seeking: Su Tianqing withholds the clue about Shasha to protect her from unfair judgment, yet still seeks answers through respectful support.
  • Love, memory, and loss: Sparrow Dad’s tender memories of his wife contrast with the ominous event that may explain Shasha’s origins.
  • The ordinary beside the extraordinary: Playful, absurd Mindscapes and affectionate family memories sit alongside the looming threat of Garuda and the mysterious egg.

Ch. 592Summary Analysis and Key Conclusions

1. Key Plot Points

  • Inari and Su Tianqing meet under a Cognitive Veil to discuss intelligence too sensitive for Divine Codex transmission.
  • Su Tianqing reports that Shasha’s father found a giant black-patterned egg over a decade ago—matching the egg seen in the Phantasm Dream Mindscape.
  • They conclude Shasha likely hatched from such an egg, making her a magical anchor or vessel for Garuda, which explains her abnormal talent and ability to see Garuda’s gaze.
  • Inari firmly rejects the idea that Shasha is Garuda herself.
  • Heartmoon Fox suggests capturing Shasha for research—Inari immediately vetoes it.
  • They decide not to approach Shasha directly yet, to avoid drawing Garuda’s attention (a lesson from Dandelion’s Phantasm Dream incident).
  • Inari proposes investigating the destroyed Sparrow Town ruins.
  • At the ruins, Inari’s magic uncovers hidden withered grass and shattered black-patterned eggshells deep in the woods—a major piece of evidence.

2. Character Developments

  • Su Tianqing / Heartmoon Fox: Shows growing anger and resolve against Garuda; realizes her own blind spots and appreciates Inari’s insights.
  • Inari: Demonstrates sharp intellect, caution, and empathy; reveals she missed ten years of the modern world, adding a personal layer to her character.
  • Hellcat / Nan Jiayu: Acts as a supportive sounding board, asking key questions and accompanying the investigation.

3. Significant Themes

  • Information security and secrecy: Face-to-face meetings and magical veils are necessary for protecting sensitive knowledge.
  • Ethical limits in investigation: Rejecting harmful methods (like capturing Shasha) despite the urgency.

Ch. 593The Way to Solve It

Key plot points and events

  • Su Tianqing, Nan Jiayu, and Inari investigate the remains of a giant egg in a clearing where the grass and shrubs have withered. The fragments resemble those found in earlier Phantasm Dream Mindscapes.
  • Inari’s magical examination makes one fragment glow and heat up. She senses violent, chaotic magic, reinforcing the theory that Garuda’s egg is a magical anchor connecting the Star Realm and the Mortal World.
  • Inari raises a crucial problem: if Garuda is formless chaos, how can they destroy it when its manifestations take recognizable shapes?
  • Comparing Garuda’s varied appearances across past encounters, Inari and Su Tianqing realize that the form it takes may be shaped by the perceptions and expectations of those who witness it.
  • They theorize that the clearer the observers’ ideas, the more defined Garuda’s manifestation becomes; with little guidance, it approaches pure chaos and falls more fully under Garuda’s influence.
  • Inari says they can test this theory that night. Magical Girls monitoring the Mindscapes will watch for new disturbances and locate the next giant egg as soon as it appears.

Character developments

  • Su Tianqing recognizes that she neglected the practical value of investigating the physical sites of earlier attacks. She also connects Inari’s question about Garuda’s formlessness to the role of perception in shaping its manifestations.
  • Inari demonstrates her expertise through precise magical control and careful analysis. She develops the central theory linking Garuda’s changing forms to observers’ beliefs.
  • Hellcat contributes a concise observation that the shell is resisting Inari’s magical probe, helping clarify the nature of its magic.

Significant themes

  • Perception shapes reality: People’s expectations may influence how supernatural forces manifest in the Mortal World.
  • Order versus chaos: Garuda’s apparent lack of form makes it difficult to fight, while human understanding may impose recognizable shapes on it.
  • Investigation and collaboration: Careful fieldwork, prior accounts, and different characters’ insights combine to produce a testable theory.

Character interactions

  • Su Tianqing and Nan Jiayu follow Inari’s lead as she investigates the fragments, trusting her greater magical skill.
  • Inari asks Su Tianqing what she expected to emerge from the egg in the Underground Labyrinth, prompting Su Tianqing to recall thinking of possible creatures—and of Shasha and her father.
  • The two foxes reason together until they identify perception as the common thread behind Garuda’s varied forms; Inari then turns that insight into a plan for the night.

Ch. 594An Unexpected Intruder

Plot points and events

  • The team gathers at the Hero Association hotel to observe Garuda’s next attack on a Phantasm Dream Mindscape and test how the ability works. The hotel is sealed off, and Magical Girls are stationed in rooms to monitor different Mindscapes.
  • Red Rose recommends waiting in the lobby, where the group can detect an invasion and identify its target. Su Tianqing worries about the plan’s uncertainty: they do not know which Mindscape will be attacked or who will be drawn in.
  • A surge of magic comes from Room 822, where Hellcat is watching a Mindscape. Su Tianqing checks in with the other watchers and finds that all the expected Magical Girls are accounted for—meaning the Mindscape’s victims are unknown.
  • As Scarlet Snow and Su Tianqing prepare to enter and investigate, S-Rank heroes Meteor and Qi Yun arrive with urgent news: two Hero Association colleagues have fallen asleep and cannot be woken, though their vital signs are stable.
  • The chapter ends with Qi Yun identifying the victims as Messiah and Moira, revealing that Garuda’s attack has reached beyond the expected group and pulled in Association heroes.

Character developments and interactions

  • Su Tianqing remains anxious about the operation and privately jokes about Shasha’s possible online viewing habits, but shifts quickly into coordinating the response when the attack begins.
  • Scarlet Snow is practical and decisive. She challenges the idea of simply waiting, then proposes entering the Mindscape when the victims cannot be identified.
  • Red Rose favors observation from the lobby and briefly indulges in photographing her dolls, highlighting her old-fashioned hobby and playful side beneath her serious role.
  • Inari supports waiting, while Scarlet Snow quietly warns Su Tianqing not to voice her thoughts about Red Rose.
  • Meteor and Qi Yun bring the crisis into the open, reporting the unconscious colleagues and confirming the identities of the new victims.

Significant themes

  • Uncertainty and adaptation: The team’s careful preparations cannot predict the attack’s targets or scope.
  • Escalating danger: Garuda’s ability appears to affect people outside the anticipated Magical Girl group, raising the stakes.
  • Humor amid crisis: Su Tianqing’s irreverent inner commentary and the group’s casual interactions contrast with the seriousness of the unfolding threat.

Ch. 595You Seem to Be a Little Late

Garuda’s Phantasm Dream Mindscape targets two S-Rank heroes, Messiah and Moira, surprising the Divine Codex Stone gathering. Concerned because heroes lack Magical Girls’ magical defenses, Scarlet Snow immediately takes Su Tianqing into the Mindscape to find them. Meteor and Qi Yun, however, explain that heroes can still use their Psychic Abilities there—and that Messiah is an exceptionally formidable fighter.
Inside the Mindscape, Scarlet Snow and Su Tianqing reunite with Hellcat in a dark, childlike bedroom. Hellcat explains the scenario: a zombie-filled city with weapons, stages, and puzzles, much like Left 4 Dead. The group equips itself—Scarlet Snow takes a shotgun, Hellcat a fire axe and chainsaw, and Su Tianqing a small pistol—and heads toward the spot where Garuda’s egg landed.
They expect to find Messiah and Moira in danger, but instead discover the pair standing calmly atop a huge pile of defeated zombies, seemingly unharmed. Their effortless victory reveals just how capable the heroes are, especially Messiah.
Character developments and interactions: Scarlet Snow’s impulsive protectiveness drives the rescue, while Su Tianqing worries over the heroes’ vulnerability. Hellcat proves resourceful, having already explored the Mindscape and gathered information; she and Su Tianqing share easy, playful familiarity. Scarlet Snow’s recognition of the game’s format quickly turns her apprehension into enthusiasm.
Themes: The chapter contrasts Magical Girls’ magic with heroes’ Psychic Abilities, challenges assumptions about who is vulnerable, and builds suspense through the rescuers’ fear before undercutting it with the heroes’ overwhelming competence.

  • Garuda’s location and the threat: The heroes determine that Garuda has broken through the true Firmament, likely through the lingering rift Scarlet Snow opened during the Astral Jellyfish’s Descent. Heartmoon Fox’s abandoned Mindscape shield has accidentally trapped the behemoth between the Firmament and the Mortal World, protecting Rongcheng while helping the heroes locate it.
  • Evacuation and battle preparations: The Hero Association evacuates Rongcheng, with Magical Girls mobilized to protect residents. Red Rose turns away volunteers who want to join the battle, explaining that reserves must be ready to take over if the main team fails. In the command center, Inari presents the final plan: find Garuda’s giant egg in the next Phantasm Dream Mindscape and use the observer effect to force the formless behemoth into a physical form that can be fought. Red Rose volunteers to hatch it, drawing on her experience trapping Leviathan in her Mindscape for more than twenty years; she believes she can contain Garuda temporarily as well.
  • The Mindscape operation: The team will enter assigned Mindscapes in their physical bodies and use magical isolation to resist their rules, allowing them to complete missions quickly with basic magic. Red Rose will face Garuda in the Phantasm Dream, so she cannot eject the others back to the Mortal World. Heartmoon Fox sends the instructions to the participating Magical Girls.
  • Shasha confronts her past: Before the operation, Su Tianqing—visiting as Dandelion—finds Shasha alone on the Hero Association rooftop. Shasha explains that her adoptive parents found her as a baby and raised her as their own. Garuda’s shadow monster later killed her family, and she fears that her existence caused their deaths. Dandelion reassures her that her parents saved her from becoming a monster under Garuda’s control and chose to give her a loving home. She also makes clear Shasha is not obligated to join the fight.
  • Shasha’s decision: Shasha chooses to participate, driven by a desire to avenge her mother and siblings. Though she holds a Guardian Star, it does not transform her into a Magical Girl yet; the chapter ends with its light shining brightly.

Character developments and interactions

  • Red Rose emerges as a formidable, self-sacrificing veteran, accepting responsibility for containing Garuda despite the danger. Her speech also emphasizes teamwork and the importance of having reserves.
  • Inari turns the team’s understanding of Garuda into a bold, if risky, tactical plan.
  • Su Tianqing/Dandelion acts with compassion toward Shasha, offering reassurance without pressuring her.
  • Shasha moves from grief and self-blame toward a determined choice to fight. Her bond with her adoptive family is central to her resolve.

Significant themes

The chapter explores sacrifice and collective responsibility, as the heroes prepare for a dangerous battle while protecting civilians and keeping reserves ready. It also emphasizes found family and chosen identity: Shasha’s parents’ love, rather than her mysterious origins, defines her life. Finally, the chapter contrasts fear and agency—Shasha cannot undo her loss, but she can choose how to respond to it.

The Calm Before the Battle - Summary

Narrator / Description

"Please carry only the minimum necessary personal belongings, bring your ID and communication devices, and proceed to the evacuation points promptly."
The Hero Association's evacuation announcements blared through every street and alley of Rongcheng.
The residents had long grown used to all manner of monster attacks and evacuations. Through various information channels, they had also learned just how large-scale this evacuation was, so few dared gamble with their lives and livelihoods.
Of course, there were still influencers and thrill-seekers willing to risk their lives for attention. But the Hero Association had a unique way of dealing with them: [Electromagnetic] Qi Yun used her psychic abilities to take over Rongcheng's entire full-band radio network. Even if the influencers stubbornly stayed behind, they had no internet or signal, so they could only leave with the evacuation teams.
The experience gained from Harbor City's mass evacuation was now being applied to Rongcheng's evacuation, leaving the people seated in the command center feeling rather emotional.

Messiah and Meteor

Messiah: "Tell me, how does Heartmoon Fox know our operational procedures so well?"
Messiah asked Meteor beside her.
She held the command tablet issued by the Association. On the screen was the latest video released by Magical Girl Fox Fox official, explaining the situation in terms ordinary people could understand and urging Rongcheng's citizens to evacuate as soon as possible.
Messiah glanced at the video's view count and even felt that Heartmoon Fox's video had been more effective than the Hero Association shouting through loudspeakers everywhere.
Meteor calmly picked up her thermos and took a sip of tea.
Meteor: "But isn't this pretty good too? At least we saved a lot of time, she got plenty of views, everyone evacuated to safety, and everyone benefited."
Messiah: "Looking at it that way, I suppose that's true."
Messiah nodded, admitting that Meteor had a point.
The two looked at the map of Rongcheng before them, flickering with countless points of light.
Each point of light represented an evacuation point for the corresponding district—Heartmoon Fox had set up teleportation magic in those locations, greatly reducing the likelihood of traffic jams and multiplying the efficiency of the evacuation.
A few scattered points went dark after their final flicker. Gradually, fewer and fewer lights remained on the map, until only several faint glimmers continued to shine softly.

Radio Communication: Qi Yun

[Crackle... This is Qi Yun. Can the forward command center hear me?]
Qi Yun's voice came through the radio, and Messiah casually answered.
Messiah: "We hear you. Are you done over there?"
[The evacuation went smoothly. Everyone in the core area has been evacuated. Have the frontline teams withdraw immediately.]
Messiah: "Received."
Messiah put down the radio and glanced at Meteor. The latter gave a light nod in understanding, stood up to stretch a little, and vanished from the command tent in the blink of an eye.
She was going to pick up all the frontline teams and evacuate them from the central area of Rongcheng that was scheduled to come under attack.

Narrative: Messiah's Thoughts

Messiah thought so, but she still could not help looking once more at the screen in her hand.
Heartmoon Fox's evacuation appeal video had ended, and the app had begun automatically playing one of her other videos—[Was Something Wrong with Making Delicious in Dungeon in the World of Grand Theft O Hand?]
"What an interesting little girl."
The white-haired girl grinned, put the tablet aside after turning off its screen, and picked up the radio beside her again.

Radio Communication: Messiah and Qi Yun

Messiah: "...Hello, Qi Yun."
[If you have something to say, say it quickly. I'm busy over here.]
Messiah: "When are Red Rose and the others planning to begin? Do we have an exact time?"
[...Six tonight. They said they'll start after dinner.]
Messiah: "Alright, get back to work."
The radio call ended. Messiah rose from her chair and stretched as well, then pulled out her phone and dialed a number she had committed to memory.
Even though Qi Yun had unilaterally monopolized Rongcheng's entire radio communications network, the call still went through without issue.

Phone Call: Messiah and BOSS

Messiah: "BOSS, are you listening?"
[It's me.]
A somewhat deep male voice came from the other end.
Messiah unconsciously straightened her posture. She walked out of the command tent and looked over the modern city, now completely devoid of people.
Messiah: "According to plan, everything within a twenty-kilometer radius of the designated area has been cleared. The girls are planning to start at six."
Messiah: "Yes, there haven't been any mistakes."
Messiah: "That girl named Shasha is said to be the key figure in this operation, but I think she's still only a reserve. No matter how you look at it, we shouldn't let a child who hasn't even entered the field yet..."
Messiah: "You're telling me not to worry? Even if you say that, BOSS..."
Messiah suddenly froze. Her expression gradually calmed, while her brows drew together slightly.
The male voice on the other end said nothing more. After giving a few simple instructions, he hung up, leaving Messiah staring blankly at the call record from the unknown contact on her screen.

Phone Call: Shasha and Her Father

Shasha: "Dad, don't worry. Take that child with you and follow the Hero Association staff. I'll fly over to find you myself later."
Shasha: "Don't worry yourself sick. I'm still helping the Hero Association with the evacuation over here. I even borrowed someone else's phone, but I'll definitely come find you later."
Shasha: "Mm, you stay safe too."
The eagle owl girl hung up and let out a long sigh. Her whole body slumped like a deflated balloon, and she listlessly handed the Divine Codex Stone back to Marigold.

Shasha and Marigold

Marigold: "Hehe, your dad gave you a whole long lecture too?"
Marigold chuckled as she moved closer to the fluffy eagle owl girl.
Shasha nodded.
Shasha: "Yeah... Dad said his phone had no signal, and once it connected to the network, it would forcibly pop up [Please proceed to the nearest evacuation point]. He couldn't contact me at all."
Marigold: "Because Miss Qi Yun has already taken over all of Rongcheng's radio networks, that's pretty normal."
Shasha: "I understand that much, but Dad... Ah, forget it. He's always been terrible with electronic devices."
Shasha answered with a bitter smile.
This was downtown Rongcheng.
Everyone had been evacuated, and the Association's frontline support teams had withdrawn as well, leaving this battlefield against the giant beast to the magical girls.
As a reserve magical girl being developed under Bailing and Yue Tianxin's plan, and since she herself wished to participate in this operation, Red Rose chose after much consideration to have her work with the newcomer Marigold—conducting the final node inspections throughout the city.
Marigold and Shasha were already fairly familiar with each other. They had plenty of shared topics as girls their age, and before long, they had become friends.

Marigold and Shasha: Final Inspections

Marigold: "Done. With that, our inspection work is finished too."
After leaving the barrier covering the office building rooftop and reporting the stability of this final node to Red Rose, Marigold finally let out a sigh of relief like a student who had finished her homework. She walked over and plopped down beside Shasha, who had been waiting nearby.
Marigold: "Phew... No matter how many times I see it, the seniors' skill at setting up barriers is always amazing. When will I become a magical girl as incredible as them...?"
Shasha: "Um, Senior Marigold, when did you become a magical girl?"
Shasha suddenly asked.
Being called a senior still felt a little unfamiliar to Marigold, but a pleased smile nonetheless appeared on her face.
Marigold: "Ehehe, I'm not really much of a senior. I only became a magical girl two or three months ago, so there's lots of things I'm still not good at, and besides..."
Halfway through, Marigold felt that what came next would be a little embarrassing. She gave a wry smile and tugged at the corner of her clothes to hide it, too embarrassed to say it aloud.
Shasha, a reserve junior, was calling her "Senior"! At this point, she absolutely could not bring herself to say something like, Sorry, but I was actually just pulled in at the time to make up the numbers.
Fortunately, Shasha did not seem to know why Marigold had said that. Her attention appeared to be focused elsewhere.
Shasha: "No, I think you're amazing, Senior Marigold. Everyone says you immediately gained the recognition of the Guardian Star and the Star Gods, but I can't even transform."
The Winged Folk girl lightly flapped her wings, stirring up a faint breeze.
Shasha looked up at the cloud-covered sky, then suddenly seemed to remember something. She quietly spoke to the girl beside her, who was relaxing her body.
Shasha: "Senior Marigold, may I ask you a question?"
Marigold: "Sure! Ask away! Though I might not necessarily be able to answer..."
Marigold said excitedly, though she immediately recognized the limits of her own ability.
Shasha: "It's not a very profound question. It's just... just something simple."
The girl nervously tucked in her wings and spoke softly.
Shasha: "Senior, when you transformed for the first time, what did you do to succeed?"
