Ch. 4341Was This... the Three Transformations Technique?
Plot points and events
- Su Shi’er finds Shen Miaoyin seated at the base of the Immortal Pillar, struggling against black-and-gold chains with the Wangshu Sword. The sword spirit is weakening and appears worried by his arrival.
- Three half-solid figures resembling Shen Miaoyin emerge around her. Unlike the Three Transformations Technique’s controlled incarnations, these figures appear independently minded and connected to Shen by chains. Su Shi’er suspects they share her Soul Origin.
- The armored figure—apparently an afterimage of the powerful Fairy Qionghua—declares that intruders in Qionghua Palace must die and attacks Su Shi’er with a storm of sword qi.
- Shen quietly tells Su Shi’er to leave, but he refuses to abandon her. He avoids revealing his identity, wary of possible traps in the Immortal Ruins.
- Su Shi’er’s hastily formed defensive array is destroyed. He dodges and deflects the continuing assault but suffers numerous shallow wounds, their healing hindered by icy Sword Intent.
- He notices that as the chains tighten around the armored figure, it becomes more substantial while Shen grows paler, reinforcing his suspicion that the chains are drawing power or life from her.
Character developments
- Su Shi’er shows resolve and caution: he will not leave Shen in danger, but remains guarded about his identity and the possibility of an ambush. He demonstrates skill under pressure, though the attack overwhelms his defenses.
- Shen Miaoyin is in grave danger and appears to be resisting the chains, yet her only communication is a warning for Su Shi’er to flee.
- The Wangshu Sword spirit is visibly weakened and concerned, suggesting the chains and Shen’s condition have placed it under strain.
- The armored afterimage displays formidable power and a hostile, seemingly independent will.
Significant themes
- Loyalty versus self-preservation: Su Shi’er refuses to abandon someone important to him despite the danger.
- Identity and memory: Shen’s lost memories and the figures’ connection to her Soul Origin raise questions about who she is and what her past contains.
- Power and sacrifice: The tightening chains strengthen the afterimage while draining Shen, implying that her suffering may be sustaining the threat.
- Caution in a dangerous world: Su Shi’er’s refusal to disclose his identity reflects the uncertainty and hidden dangers of the Immortal Ruins.
Character interactions
- Su Shi’er and Shen exchange a brief, emotionally charged moment: she urges him to go, while he addresses her as “Senior Sister” and insists on staying.
- The Wangshu Sword spirit meets Su Shi’er’s gaze with worry rather than welcome.
- The armored afterimage treats Su Shi’er as an intruder and attacks, forcing him to defend himself while watching for changes in Shen’s condition.
