Background / History

The Xiao Clan is an ancient bloodline that possesses a piece of the Tuoshe Ancient God Jade. This inheritance makes it a target of the Soul Hall, whose agents seek both the jade and Xiao Zhan 2 136.

At the beginning of the story, the clan is based in Wutan City and is one of its three major powers alongside the Galie and Oba Clans 23. Xiao Zhan serves as clan head, while three senior elders hold enough authority collectively to veto his decisions 13. The clan conducts regular Dou Qi testing ceremonies for its younger members, publicly announcing each result at the Magic Stone Stele 1 133.

Xiao Yan's three-year decline exposed deep internal opportunism. Clan members ridiculed him after his cultivation fell to Third-Stage Dou Zhi Qi, while the elders withheld his resources, attempted to remove him as young clan leader, and even sought to weaken Xiao Zhan's position 1 19. After Xiao Yan recovered his strength and defeated Nalan Yanran, he forced a reckoning: Xiao Ning and several others were transferred to branch businesses, and the three elders were demoted to stewards 20 21.

The clan endured direct pressure from the Misty Cloud Sect during Nalan Yanran's attempted annulment of her engagement to Xiao Yan. The elders initially treated Xiao Zhan's humiliation as an opportunity to undermine him, while Xiao Zhan was prepared to defend his son despite the sect's overwhelming status 14. The Misty Cloud Sect later dispatched Yun Leng and more than ten Battle Kings to destroy the Xiao Clan and search for the ancient jade, but Xiao Yan annihilated the attackers and captured Yun Leng 136.

Organization

• Xiao Zhan — Clan head. He leads the clan through its conflicts with the Galie Clan and refuses to surrender Xiao Yan even under threat of a clan war 36.
• Three Elders — Formerly able to veto the clan head's decisions; demoted to stewards after abusing their authority, then restored after proving their loyalty during Wutan City's unification 13 20 133.
• Stewards — Administer clan affairs and businesses. The former First Elder became chief steward during his demotion and later received Xiao Yan's support in exchange for loyalty to Xiao Zhan 51.
• Branch households — Manage ordinary businesses and provide a place for disciplined or demoted members to contribute to the clan 20 21.
• Younger generation — Tested publicly for Dou Qi progress. Their resources and overall cultivation improved substantially after Xiao Yan's rise 133.

Major Arcs

Internal Reckoning

After returning to prominence, Xiao Yan holds the elders and younger members accountable for their treatment of him during his decline. The punishment removes entrenched figures from authority without expelling them from the clan entirely, leaving a path to regain standing through merit 19 20 21.

Conflict with the Galie Clan

Galie Ao's provocation and subsequent crippling by Xiao Yan ignite open hostility between the Xiao and Galie Clans. Xiao Zhan refuses Galie Bi's demand to hand over his son, while the Miter Auction House publicly backs the Xiao Clan and cuts material support to the Galie Clan 35 36.

The conflict shifts into commercial warfare when the Galie Clan employs alchemist Liu Xi to steal the Xiao Clan's marketplace profits. Xiao Yan answers with superior medicines, including Blood-Coagulating Powder and the Strength-Accumulating Elixir, steadily destroying the Galie Clan's ability to compete 43 44 48.

Xiao Yan eventually exterminates the Galie Clan, kills Galie Bi, seizes its vault, and returns its assets to the Xiao Clan. Clan personnel then take over Galie shops, marketplaces, and territories throughout Wutan City 53 54.

Rise of Wutan City's Ruling Clan

With the Galie Clan eliminated and the Oba Clan subdued, the Xiao Clan becomes Wutan City's uncontested power. Its younger generation receives greater resources, its members achieve visible cultivation gains, and the former elders are restored after demonstrating loyalty 133.

Relocation to the Imperial Capital

Xiao Yan brings the clan, including Xiao Zhan, Xiao Ding, and Xiao Li, to the Imperial Capital so they can live under stronger protection and enjoy the fruits of his rise 164. The Jia Ma royal family grants the clan autonomous territory, while an elder and branch-clan members remain in Wutan City to preserve it as a secondary stronghold 164.
