The liches did not believe Jerome. Practice was the only standard for testing truth.
They all charged toward the Crystal Wall, but it was indeed as Jerome had said: the undead could not cross the boundary between life and death.
To be precise, they had not even touched the Crystal Wall before Ember extracted them and relocated them.
The undead could not descend upon the Sunside, nor could the living descend upon the Darkside.
The liches temporarily set aside their research and settled down to study the Crystal Wall. Being unable to cross did not mean they would abandon their exploration.
Humans could change the stagnant state of the Darkside, bringing new developments and new knowledge. For liches with such an intense thirst for knowledge, giving up was out of the question.
One lich released a wisp of blighted undead miasma, which actually passed straight through the Crystal Wall.
Just as the Dark Plane eroded the Elemental Plane and caused baleful entities to appear, the Gourd Continent, as a Model World, followed the same pattern.
The lich exclaimed, "Look! Energy can pass through the Crystal Wall!"
The words had barely left the lich's mouth.

In less than a second, the baleful energy was neutralized by elemental energy.
But every lich present had witnessed it!
The elderly-looking lich pondered for a moment, then had a flash of inspiration. "Since energy can pass through the Crystal Wall, perhaps we can find a way to turn humans into undead creatures first. Then they could cross the Crystal Wall and enter the Undead World."
If the mountain would not come to them, they would go to the mountain. There was nothing wrong with that approach.
