Mortals with fragile hearts needed something to lean on spiritually.

That gave opportunists a chance to use religion to amass wealth and influence in the name of satisfying that need for faith.

Even without a god, they could invent one out of thin air. How much easier would it be with a god who actually existed?

So long as people knew such a religion existed, spreading the faith did not actually require much effort.

If every plane knew of the Undying Church, the Undying Church would exist there.

Compared to praying to the Goddess of Luck for good fortune or to the Storm Lord for safety.

The Undying Church answered the most fundamental desire of living beings: the desire to live.
