Ch. 501Marriage Alliance
Key plot points and events
- Liu Yuanchen witnesses Han Yuan’s memories of becoming head of the Black Lotus Holy Sect. The mysterious lord of Sky-Suspended Ghost City empowers Han Yuan through the Black Jade Lotus Platform and installs him as sect master.
- Han Yuan abandons his predecessor’s aggressive approach, keeps senior members secluded, and relies on lower-ranking followers to spread Demon Qi Black Lotuses. The platform accelerates his cultivation, but also makes him increasingly bloodthirsty.
- Han Yuan discovers that a Heavenly Demon is influencing him and uses his Black Lotus Treasure Mirror to suppress it. Liu Yuanchen suspects the demon’s presence is tied to the Ghost City’s control of the sect.
- Back in the Dongyang Realm, Liu Yuanchen finds that studying Han Yuan’s memories has exposed him to Devil Dao techniques and laws. He destroys the Inner Demon Law, its related memories, and a demon-qi technique called Heavenly Demon Soul Devouring. He also erases Han Yuan’s memories from the lamp to protect his grand-grandmasters from studying the dangerous law.
- Three years have passed during Liu Yuanchen’s study. The Red Wasteland Marquisate has grown stronger and sends senior official Xia Lingzhao to propose a marriage alliance.
- Liu Yuanchen declines the offer of the marquis’s youngest daughter for himself, but agrees to consider a match between his nephew Liu Chengye and Xia Minglan, the marquis’s eldest legitimate granddaughter.
- Chengye accepts his uncle’s decision. Liu Yuanchen suspects the marriage proposal is also a pretext for the Xia Clan to investigate his strength, but is unconcerned.
Character developments
- Han Yuan rises rapidly to Earth Immortal, but the power he gains comes with growing bloodlust and the hidden influence of a Heavenly Demon.
- Liu Yuanchen becomes more cautious about the costs of knowledge. He prioritizes protecting the young Dongyang Realm and its Heavenly Dao from Devil Dao influence, even at the cost of destroying useful memories and insights.
- Liu Chengye is shown as ambitious and focused on immortality rather than marriage. He already has three concubines and two young children, yet leaves the decision about a principal wife to Liu Yuanchen.
Character interactions
- Han Yuan submits to the Ghost City’s concealed ruler, who grants him authority while binding the sect to the city’s influence through the Black Jade Lotus Platform.
- Liu Yuanchen manages the marriage negotiations with Xia Lingzhao: he refuses a match for himself, then consults Chengye before accepting the possibility of a family alliance.
- Chengye privately warns Liu Yuanchen that the Xia Clan may use the wedding party to probe his cultivation. Liu Yuanchen dismisses the risk confidently.
Significant themes
