Recently, something major happened in the Land of Waves.
A ship loaded with corpses ran aground on the southeastern shore of the Land of Waves. All the dead were subordinates of the wealthy Gato.
Among them were even two rogue ninja from Kirigakure!
They had been hired by Gato to help him violently monopolize shipping in the Land of Waves. They had thought they would merely be bullying ordinary people, but clearly, they had never expected to die silently aboard one of Gato's ships.
Without question, other ninja had done this.
But even though the dead were all thugs and hooligans under Gato's command who had committed every kind of evil, such a bloody and violent massacre was still enough to terrify all the people of the Land of Waves.
Very few ninja would carry out such indiscriminate slaughter against ordinary people. While clearing out the bodies aboard the ship, the islanders could practically feel the panic and terror of those on board when the killing began.
The inside of the portholes was covered in bloody handprints of varying shades. They were proof that people who had fallen inside the cabin, their hands stained with their companions' blood, had tried to smash the portholes and jump out.
Some had knelt and begged for mercy, but the killers seemed to have used some unknown method. Only corpses remained kneeling on the ground, with no blood or visible injuries on them.
Some had raised axes to fight back, but the axes seemed to have been snapped by tremendous force and had severed the heads of the people wielding them. Only the headless corpses on the floor, still gripping their axe handles, bore witness to their bravery in life.
