Qualification and Advancement
Academy Graduation
A prospective Genin must pass an Academy assessment. Inuzuka Ye Fan's special retest required him to remain undefeated for five minutes against a randomly assigned Genin in a sealed training room; winning also counted as a pass. 5
Ye Fan ultimately defeated Neji Hyuga and became an official Genin despite possessing no chakra, an outcome that surprised Konoha's leadership. 49 60
Chunin Promotion
The Chunin Exams determine whether Genin can advance to Chunin. Participants are generally recommended by their instructor after more than a year as Genin and after gaining sufficient experience. 180
Kurenai Yuhi recommended Ye Fan for promotion after his performance on a mission, but Hiruzen Sarutobi declined an immediate promotion and directed him toward the Chunin Exams instead. 201
Restrictions
- Following Ye Fan's near-fatal assault on Sasuke Uchiha, Hiruzen Sarutobi prohibited private fights between Genin and threatened severe punishment for violations. 99
