Landscape Orchid Pavilion, an upscale residential complex, had been highly sought after by the city's residents ever since its construction.

If someone asked where another person lived and the answer was Landscape Orchid Pavilion, they would always exclaim in surprise. Something like, "You actually live there? That's amazing."

When the development first began, that plot of land had not been worth much. There was no commercial street, nor were there many residential areas—just a river, mountains beside it, and a modest ancient-architecture tourist attraction. Its busiest times were when tourists came. Some office workers heading downtown might pass over the nearby bridge, but there was little else.

That was why housing prices had not been high then, still within reach for most residents. Yet once people entered, they discovered that its design was completely different from other developments. Since the developer came from the Jiangsu-Zhejiang region, the interior design drew upon the style of Suzhou Gardens. Every corner was a view, with lush trees casting shade and flowers blooming in every season. The tree-lined paths twisted and turned, making a walk through the neighborhood feel like strolling through a tranquil garden.

The property management fees were not outrageously expensive either. The plants and flowers were always maintained according to the season. At Landscape Orchid Pavilion, one would never see yellowed grass or withered flowers.

And so, its reputation spread, and naturally more people came to buy. The ordinary commercial apartments sold out immediately. The riverside residences were equally sought after, all sold within less than a year, and the sales office was demolished and turned into an outdoor parking lot.

At the time, the uniformly constructed development across the street had stood empty, steeped in bleak desolation.
