On the roof of Kane Mansion, Batman and Spawn traded a punch, then each darted away. They had no choice—the bullets coming up from below were like a torrential downpour.

But with a distant hum, the sky seemed to split open as though someone had slashed it with a sword. A blood-red glow, like burning blood, spread from the rift, extending a greeting from Hell.

"What is that?"

Catwoman stared in that direction in shock. With just one glance, she felt its twisted terror, like the Hell of legend, burning with endless flames and suffering.

"Hell..." Spawn answered, his ghostly green gaze fixed deeply on it. He knew that aura all too well.

Batman tugged at his Utility Belt, gripping a silver dinner knife rumored to kill vampires. Alfred had given it to him as a protective charm.

But now, that dinner knife seemed a little too small.

"I can't stay here. The gates of Hell have opened, and those demons will do anything to force their way through."

Spawn got to his feet and jumped straight off the building. This place had little to do with him.

But he did not want this city to become Hell's scorched earth, nor did he want this world to become part of Hell. After all, there were still many beautiful things in this world.

Batman watched Spawn's retreating figure and put away the silver dinner knife. He sensed a resolve—a resolve to sacrifice oneself for others. Spawn had already made his choice.

"I hope you have transportation." Batman took several spherical flashbangs from his belt and threw them downstairs.

A series of bangs rang out, and the special operations team and the bodyguards below all clutched their eyes and screamed.

With a whoosh, Batman spread the cape behind him and glided down.
