The mage smiled and did not offer any further rebuttal.
In truth, Chen Xu wanted to forge a powerful magical artifact of his own, one suited to himself. He disdained using something made by someone else, but he did not reveal this thought outright and kept it buried in his heart.
This mage was called Mordo, and he was also the instructor of this special classroom.
"Has everyone received their own magical artifact?"
Everyone shouted excitedly, "We have!"
Afterward, Mordo began explaining knowledge related to magical artifacts and magic. Everyone listened with their blood boiling, overwhelmed with excitement and anticipation. Chen Xu was no exception.
Mages represented honor and status.
They all began imagining themselves wielding magic, filled with longing.
"Watch closely. I'll give you a demonstration. This is what you'll be learning from now on."
Mordo put on his magical artifact and directly sliced through space, opening a portal. The scene within the portal was familiar to everyone—it was the place where the students had just received their magical artifacts.
Everyone stared intently at Mordo's movements.
What Chen Xu saw was different from what they saw. In his eyes, where Mordo's finger had just passed, the structure of space had been altered. The spatial structure there and the structure of the room where the magical artifacts were kept were changed, reorganized, and linked together. But soon, the surrounding laws of space began repairing themselves. At that moment, a stream of energy blocked those laws from closing the gap, forming a hole. That hole was what they called a portal.
Just then, the system's voice echoed in his mind.
"Congratulations, Host. You have completed the mission and received your reward: the evolvable magical artifact, God's Hand."
"This is an evolvable magical artifact paired with the Chaos Magic within the Host's body. It will continuously grow stronger as the Host becomes stronger."
"It can alter the material structure of real space to a certain degree, strengthen its owner's magical power, and make the Host's spells more powerful. Once it evolves to a sufficiently high level, it may even grasp the boundaries of time and the scale of space, altering the laws of reality."
The next second, Chen Xu put on God's Hand without hesitation.
Chen Xu looked at God's Hand on his own hand. It was actually just a gray-gold glove, yet it radiated an aura of divine grace. As for what material it was made from, Chen Xu had no idea. However,
the moment Chen Xu put it on, he felt as though everything in the world was within his grasp, as though he had become a god.
The Elemental Magic and Chaos Magic within his body became restless.
Chen Xu directly poured Chaos power into God's Hand and ran a finger through the space before him. A spatial rift immediately appeared, showing no signs of closing. It was completely different from the spatial portal Mordo had opened with his magic ring. Mordo's was sustained by magical energy, while Chen Xu's directly altered the laws of the surrounding space. One was passive; the other was active.
Chen Xu made a pinching motion with God's Hand, and the spatial rift healed, as though he were sealing a dumpling.
Chen Xu was overjoyed. He lovingly played with God's Hand, then used Elemental Magic through it. A fireball of extremely high temperature and an Ice Shield appeared before him, and he played to his heart's content.
After completing that mission, I thought the system would immediately issue another one. But there hasn't been a single response. Looks like missions aren't released whenever I want.
After becoming familiar with how to use the magical artifact, Chen Xu went to the meditation room.
The first lesson after receiving their magical artifacts was meditation, but the teacher had not arrived yet.
So Chen Xu sat cross-legged off to the side and began meditating. Meditation helped focus the mind, cultivate one's body and temperament, and benefit spiritual power. Thus, it had become a daily required practice for every mage.
After meditating for a while, Chen Xu sensed someone approaching him and abruptly opened his eyes.
A middle-aged mage came into view, wearing reading glasses and a simple Daoist robe.
He was like a priest, carrying an air of mystery.
"Who are you?"
"I'm the teacher who will be teaching you the fundamentals of magic."
"Us?"
Only then did Chen Xu notice that while he had been meditating, the other students had already entered carrying books.
Everyone listened very attentively during this lesson.
"All right, students. Now let's do some practice."
As he spoke, the magic teacher put a ring on his right hand and also brought out the left hand he had hidden inside his robes.
Everyone instantly looked at the magic teacher's hand with astonishment. He had no palm!
The teacher paid no attention to their shocked stares and simply began casting a spell, freely sharing his insights into spellcasting.
"This is a basic spell: Fireball."
A fireball then appeared in his hand.
"Chen Xu, would you like to give it a try?"
Chen Xu froze for a moment. "Yes."
Chen Xu's urge to show off began stirring again.
Chen Xu imitated the one-handed mage, gathering a fireball in his hand. Only, his fireball was blue.
When the one-handed mage saw what Chen Xu had done, he suppressed his shock and hurriedly praised him.
"Well done, Chen Xu. Can you keep it like that?"
Chen Xu felt a trace of confusion.
"No problem."
The next second, a fireball flew toward him, but it quickly vanished.
"This intensity is way too exaggerated."
"Chen Xu, send that fireball at me now. Let me test its power."
Hearing the one-handed teacher's words, Chen Xu did not hesitate. "All right."
Then he directly threw it over.
A moment later, the fireball exploded with a boom, kicking up a large cloud of dust.
The crowd immediately grew worried. "That fireball was way too powerful. Is the teacher going to be all right?"
"This guy is terrifying."
"This guy is awesome."
Chen Xu's display left everyone stunned.
The magical shield the one-handed mage had used to block it shattered instantly, and he could not help wiping the cold sweat from his brow.
He then used wind magic to disperse the dust caused by the fireball.
"Chen Xu, you can't use that much power the next time you spar with someone."
Through this practice session, Chen Xu gained a thorough understanding of his own strength.
After class, the apprentices gathered together, seemingly discussing something as they occasionally glanced at Chen Xu. Chen Xu alone sat by himself.
However, the teachers of his other classes were later all won over by Chen Xu's talent. They all called him a monster, saying they could not teach him anything—he knew everything, and he mastered anything after learning it once. The instructors were utterly devastated.
The achievements they had been so proud of were mastered by a new student after a single lesson. It made them understand what it meant for comparisons to make people furious.
In the end, they unanimously decided to grant Chen Xu a special privilege: he could go to the library and study on his own.
