The Acceptance Letter

"Young Master Xiwen, Madam asked me to tell you the letter has arrived, and you may go to the sitting room to check it now!" With a "pop", a short House-Elf with pointy ears and brown skin appeared before Xiwen.

"I know, Millie, I'll go right away." Xiwen raised his head from a pile of metal and replied to the House-Elf.

The House-Elf Millie was the descendant of the previous House-Elf Miller, bred with the master's permission. Before Miller passed away, he had served in the Rosier family for over a hundred years. As for the Rosier family, they were known as one of the Sacred Twenty-Eight, and had historically held profound influence in the European Wizarding World.

Eleven years had passed since he came into this world. Xiwen had entered an alternative magical world, one completely distinct from the magical system of Kamar-Taj. His current name was Sivan Rosier. To his relief, this name was extremely similar in pronunciation to his former one, allowing him to adapt quickly.

Xiwen already had a general understanding of the background of this world. His soul entered the body of a newborn infant in 1925 of this spacetime. At that time, two dark wizards ambushed the Rosier family while they were on vacation. Xiwen's father, Leo Rosier, and the House-Elf Miller were brutally murdered by the Killing Curse while protecting Xiwen and his mother!

In his previous life, Xiwen had been an orphan without father or mother since childhood, raised by the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj. Fortunately, crossing into this world came with a mother's companionship, so he ultimately did not have to be an orphan for another lifetime.

Then came the story after Xiwen arrived in this world. He burst forth with all the magical power within his body—or as they called it in this world, magic. Driven by the protective magic of Master Yao, he spewed out a powerful force that instantly annihilated the entire bodies of the two dark wizards in an instant.

In the eyes of his mother, Sandrine Selwyn Rosier, this was a magical surge produced by the young wizard Xiwen under stress.

A magical surge was a phenomenon that occurred alongside a young wizard's magical growth. The Wizarding World generally believed that the more talented a wizard was, the greater the impact their childhood magical surge would produce. Therefore, Sandrine had no doubt that Xiwen would become a great wizard in the future and the glory of the Rosier family!

In reality, Xiwen himself was not sure what that even counted as, but he knew that perhaps he originally possessed some power back then, yet more of it was still his teacher's final parting gift. The truth was far less exaggerated than she thought.

Xiwen walked down the attic and saw a woman with delicate features standing beside the courtyard fountain. Her smooth, long black hair fell across her shoulders, a purple-blue silk dress trailed down to her calves, and she wore a fitted deep-coffee-colored robe. In her hands, she held an envelope and a gift box respectively.

"Is it the Hogwarts acceptance letter, Mom?" Xiwen walked toward Sandrine and asked.

"Yes. In the blink of an eye, you've reached the age to go to school and leave home." Sandrine's tone carried a slight hint of sadness.

Xiwen said, "I'll be coming home every term anyway!"

"That's true." Sandrine seemed to grow a bit happier, and promptly handed him the envelope. "Take a look at your letter. You only get one of these acceptance letters in your entire life!"

Xiwen took the letter and tore open the envelope. Inside was a thick piece of parchment, which read:

Xiwen roughly skimmed through the letter and the list of required equipment, then raised his head to ask, "Mom, our family shouldn't be lacking these things, right?"

"That's right, all the admission equipment is already available in fine quality. Just have Millie go to Flourish and Blotts to buy your textbooks in a bit," Sandrine said nonchalantly, handing the gift box from her other hand to Xiwen. "Congratulations, my dear son!"

Thinking of every little detail of the time he had spent with his mother since coming to this world, Xiwen smiled from the bottom of his heart: "Thank you, Mom!"

Xiwen deftly untied the ribbon wrapped around the gift box and opened it. Lying inside the box was a silver pocket watch engraved with complex patterns. Flipping open the case, the inside lid bore the crest of the Rosier family—a blooming rose, and beneath the rose was a line of elegant and casual cursive—Roses Never Die.

Sandrine wore a smile: "Try putting some things into the watch face. Haven't you always wanted something you called a storage pouch? I just felt ordinary pouches lacked sentiment. This is a pocket watch made by an alchemist from Switzerland, and after modifying it with an Undetectable Extension Charm, it looks pretty good."

Xiwen tried pressing a corner of the acceptance letter against the watch face. The hands and Roman numerals on the watch face seemed to spin like a whirlpool, and the parchment bearing the acceptance letter was sucked in and continuously shrank, quickly disappearing from sight. When he came to his senses, those hands and numbers looked as though they had never moved at all.

Curiously probing into the pocket watch with his awareness, Xiwen was surprised to find that there was a space about the size of a small attic inside!

This space was like the pocket watch's case magnified countless times, cylindrical overall, with a metallic texture on the bottom and walls. The acceptance letter was currently lying on the metal ground.

Unable to hold back a happy smile, Xiwen gave his mother a big hug, "I love this gift!"

Sandrine affectionately ruffled Xiwen's hair and said, "Alright, everything else can wait, but you definitely need to go to Diagon Alley to buy a wand. I'm guessing you wouldn't want to use the old wands collected at home."

And so, Xiwen followed his mother to the marble fireplace in the corner of the estate.

Sandrine said, "Remember to clearly pronounce the Leaky Cauldron, alright?"

After Xiwen nodded, Sandrine stepped into the hearth first, and Xiwen followed closely behind.

"Leaky Cauldron!" he pronounced those two words clearly.

One could not afford to be careless, because wrong teleportation caused by mispronouncing place names did occasionally happen. Sandrine often nagged about how a witch named Violet Dedman in the mid-century had climbed into the fireplace after arguing with her husband and mispronounced the place name, leading to her disappearing for twenty years.

Even though it was later discovered she had fallen in love at first sight with the master of the house at the wrong destination and fled from her original husband...

"Cough, cough..." Xiwen coughed heavily upon arriving at the Leaky Cauldron. Even though Millie could keep the family fireplace very clean, the destination's fireplace could not cater to his wishes, and soot flew everywhere into his eyes.

Xiwen could not help but feel a pang of nostalgia for the days when he could just wave his hand and open a Dimensional Gate.

Ever since he came to this world, aside from researching the magical system here, he had not fallen behind on his previous spells either. Basically, all the spells he had learned before could be realized in this world. Since their essence was communicating with magic through specific casting methods to manifest them, the natural changes were not too large.

However, for magic like the Dimensional Gate that required precise positioning to open, the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj in the past had always relied on tools like the Sling Ring to cast it accurately. Today, Xiwen deeply regretted not thoroughly studying how to make a Sling Ring back then.

Yet Sling Rings were basically in everyone's hands at Kamar-Taj and couldn't be more common. How could Xiwen, who was single-mindedly engrossed in researching advanced magic to solve his physical problems, possibly invest too much attention in them?

And so, the genius sorcerer Xiwen was stumped by a tiny portal spell...
