Concept for a Composite Spell

After Luo Lin returned to the stone house, he immediately began experimenting.

At first, the two particles clashed violently the moment they drew close, either annihilating each other at once or scattering out of control.

But he did not lose heart. Recalling Wizard Stone's explanation and his insights from the elemental well, he carefully sensed the subtle repulsive field between the two particles and tried to construct a buffer zone with his mental force.

The [Efficient Scholar] specialty proved useful in comprehension and finding techniques.

After dozens of failures, he gradually worked out a method of using mental force to simulate a neutral environment and weaken the conflict between the particles.

Two days later, he could barely maintain an unstable balance between two particles at his fingertips for over five minutes.

The process was extremely draining, but it also had a remarkable effect on training his fine control over mental force.

During the second lesson, Wizard Stone inspected their assignments.

Very few apprentices had completed the requirement. Kyle Silverglow was one of them; the red and blue particles before him floated steadily, displaying a solid foundation.

When Wizard Stone came before Luo Lin, the two faintly trembling particles at Luo Lin's fingertips barely met the requirement as well.

Wizard Stone nodded without saying much, but there seemed to be a trace of approval in his eyes.

Kyle's expression darkened when he saw this.

The lesson continued in greater depth, beginning with the cooperation and constraints between particles of different attributes in composite spell models.

Luo Lin absorbed this systematic knowledge thirstily, and many doubts he had encountered during self-study suddenly became clear.

He cross-referenced this new knowledge with his research into potion energy charts and the flow of energy through magic arrays, feeling that his understanding of energy's essence was forming an increasingly clear framework.

At the same time, he did not neglect his studies in other areas.

His laboratory work continued as usual, and Wizard Eric knew that he had joined Wizard Stone's course.

He occasionally asked about Luo Lin's progress and, from a perspective different from the elemental school, offered guidance on energy stability and life fields, broadening Luo Lin's horizons even further.

The Moonlight Orchid growing in the improved nourishment array finally bloomed quietly one evening.

Its pale blue petals emitted a hazy glow and gave off a tranquil, gentle aura.

Successfully cultivating this magical plant gave Luo Lin no less satisfaction than learning a new spell.

He carefully collected the petals. They were excellent ingredients for calming potions.

The days passed one after another amid busyness.

Luo Lin's life seemed to have formed a virtuous cycle.

He obtained resources through laboratory work and the sale of a small number of potions, used those resources to improve himself, then fed those improvements back into his work and research, bringing greater efficiency and deeper insights.

His strength rose steadily and firmly. Although the level progress on his panel remained slow, he could feel his foundation growing ever more solid, and his understanding and application of power were far beyond what they had been when he had just advanced to Third-Rank Apprentice.

The minor disturbance within the academy had long since subsided. Luo Lin remained the same low-key and busy apprentice, though he occasionally drew some attention during Wizard Stone's lessons.

This calm continued until Wizard Stone announced the final assessment before the course ended.

"Your final assessment is to independently design and successfully cast a minor composite spell."

Wizard Stone's voice echoed through the classroom.

"It must contain at least two different types of energy particles. The structure and effect are yours to decide."

"It may be offensive, defensive, or supportive."

"One month from now, you will demonstrate the results."

"This will determine whether you receive my course completion certification, as well as eligibility for one assistant position in my laboratory."

A chorus of sharp breaths immediately rose in the classroom.

Independently designing a spell, even a minor composite one, was an extremely difficult challenge for Third-Rank Apprentices.

It required the combined application of all the particle-control knowledge they had learned, as well as a deep understanding of spell model construction.

Confidence shone in Kyle Silverglow's eyes. He seemed to have prepared for this long ago—or perhaps he was simply certain of success.

Most of the other apprentices, however, looked troubled.

Luo Lin was slightly startled as well, then fell into thought.

Independently designing a spell... this was the perfect opportunity to test everything he had learned during this time.

He did not look at anyone else. His thoughts were already racing as he considered which two attributes to choose and what kind of effect to construct.

A new challenge lay before him.

Luo Lin knew that he could no longer remain completely low-key this time.

He needed to produce tangible results to prove his value and potential.

After Wizard Stone announced the final assessment, the atmosphere in the classroom clearly became more solemn.

Most apprentices wore expressions of pressure and contemplation as they quietly discussed their ideas.

Kyle merely cast Luo Lin a cold glance before being the first to leave the classroom with a hint of arrogance.

Luo Lin was in no hurry to leave.

He remained in his seat and carefully considered Wizard Stone's requirements once more.

Independent design, minor effect, at least two attributes, structure of his own choosing.

These keywords circled in his mind.

Rather than immediately considering what specific effect to create, Luo Lin first determined his choice of attributes.

Fire and water clashed fiercely and presented the greatest difficulty.

Combining wind and earth might produce effects like swirling dust or slowing.

Combining water and earth might relate to nourishment or bogs.

Wind and water... he thought of how the flow of wind and the formlessness of water he had sensed in the Gale Element Well had much in common.

Perhaps they would be relatively easier to control?

Moreover, much of his recent understanding of energy particles had come from his insights into the wind element.

After preliminarily deciding on wind and water as his foundation, Luo Lin began considering the spell's effect.

An offensive spell?

He already had [Acid Spray] and [Acid-Erosion Ray], so he had no immediate need for one.

A defensive spell?

[Weak Force-Field Armor] was also being continuously improved.

He was more inclined to create a practical supportive spell.

He thought of how he often needed to process materials and prepare potions, which required a certain degree of environmental cleanliness and stability.

A spell capable of dispersing dust within a small area, purifying unpleasant odors, and even slightly calming energy disturbances seemed quite useful.

Wind could handle dispersal and movement.

Water could handle purification and soothing.

The combination seemed feasible.

Once his line of thought had become somewhat clear, Luo Lin rose and left the classroom.

He did not return to the stone house. Instead, he went straight to the library, intending to consult all materials on basic wind-attribute and water-attribute particle configurations, as well as the possible synergistic effects between them.

Designing a spell was not something that could be imagined out of thin air. It required a solid theoretical foundation.

In the days that followed, Luo Lin entered an even more focused and busy state.

He devoted most of his energy to designing this minor composite spell.

During the day, he consulted a large number of books in the library, studying basic Wind Runes, Water Runes, and examples of their use in different spell models.

He used [Literacy] to quickly browse those ancient notes and manuscripts in search of inspiration.

Luo Lin discovered that the most common applications of combining wind and water were creating mist or ice, but that strayed from his original intention.

What he needed was finer control, not a change in form.

At night, he conducted countless theoretical deductions and spell model construction attempts in the stone house.

Luo Lin used his mental force to trace simple rune nodes through the air, trying to combine them in specific sequences and energy-flow paths.

The process was filled with failure.

Either the wind element was too restless, causing the structure to become unstable, or the water element was too sluggish, making the effect difficult to spread.

Or the two energies simply could not cooperate effectively, and the model collapsed and dispersed as soon as it was formed.

The mental-force consumption was immense, often leaving Luo Lin with splitting headaches.

Even so, he still enjoyed the process. Every failure deepened his understanding of the two particles' characteristics and sharpened his grasp of the delicate balance of energy synergy.

While working in Wizard Eric's laboratory, he also occasionally sought advice on energy stability and field balance, though he did not reveal that he was designing a specific spell.

Wizard Eric seemed to have seen through something and offered a few pointers on the techniques of "Energy-Field Gradient Construction" and "Mental-Force Anchor Placement."

This seemingly unrelated knowledge gave Luo Lin fresh inspiration.
