Background / History
Sendou displayed extraordinary athletic aptitude from childhood, but his ability to master activities quickly left him bored and isolated from other children. After learning soccer for only three days, he could dominate games so completely that other children stopped playing with him; baseball initially held little interest for the same reason. 59 620 621
Coach Nakanishi recognized Sendou’s exceptional reaction time during elementary-school training and began cultivating him despite his lack of focus. Sendou had not yet bought baseball equipment when he first joined training, and his formal baseball development was initially expected to begin much later. 4
In Little League, Sendou became the Wildcats’ ace and cleanup hitter within roughly two weeks, serving as the team’s offensive and defensive core. He played nearly every position except second base, third base, and shortstop. 39 106
He later joined Akagi Middle School alongside his childhood friend Sawamura Eijun. Although he understood Sawamura’s batting problems, he deliberately avoided over-guiding him out of concern that it would hinder Sawamura’s development. Sendou became Akagi’s principal offensive threat, combining home-run power, speed, and game management. 23 154
At Seidou High School, Sendou quickly entered the starting lineup as the fifth batter and center fielder, receiving jersey number 8. His emergence displaced Isashiki Jun from center field and established him as a central figure in Seidou’s offense and defense. 190 192 216
Appearance
Sendou is a relaxed-looking player who commonly carries his bat casually over his shoulder and approaches the batter’s box without visible tension. 377
- Plays primarily as a center fielder, later also appearing in other outfield, infield, and pitching roles. 192 909
- Is ambidextrous. 909
- Has an outwardly languid, unconcerned demeanor that often conceals careful observation. 139 441
Personality
Sendou is a lonely genius who finds effortless victories empty. He seeks opponents capable of producing genuine tension and excitement, rather than simply proving his superiority. 59
His usual manner is gentle, humorous, and teasing—especially toward Sawamura—but he is highly perceptive and serious about baseball. He observes opponents, teammates, and match conditions continuously even when he appears disengaged. 18 441 470
Despite his confidence, Sendou respects strong opponents and acknowledges his own limitations. He distinguishes between his broad natural gifts and pure batting skill, admitting that Azuma Kiyokuni surpasses him in direct hitting ability. 170
He is notably popular within Seidou because he can criticize or advise others without making them feel attacked. His respect for people is described as sincere, and even reserved teammates can speak comfortably with him. 201 216 626
Abilities & Skills
Dynamic Vision and Reaction Speed
Sendou possesses exceptional dynamic vision, spatial awareness, and reflexes. These traits let him judge pitch trajectories early enough to compensate for technical flaws in his swing. 129 170
- Can observe pitches and delay or initiate his swing with unusually precise timing. 23 129
- Uses his bat as a reference point to judge balls. 416
- Can identify pitch types and likely targets through game behavior and physical cues. 139
- His reliance on dynamic vision is vulnerable against deceptive left-handed sidearm deliveries and unusual trajectories. 514 515
Batting
Sendou is an elite power hitter capable of combining analytical pitch-reading with instinctive batting. His high batting average exceeded 90% after joining Seidou, though observers noted his limited early sample size. 201 216
- Hit consecutive home runs by intentionally allowing easy pitches to pass while analyzing Seiwa’s battery. 139
- Can hit home runs under high pressure, including a game-tying extra-inning home run against Inajitsu. 298
- Reached a heightened state of concentration and body control while hitting two home runs against Narumiya Mei. 318
- Developed a stance intended to counter outside-corner pitches during specialized training against Mukai’s trajectory. 515
- Uses delayed swings, selective takes, and deliberate acting to pressure pitchers into mistakes. 533
Baserunning
Sendou’s speed and acceleration make walking him nearly as dangerous as pitching to him. Opponents have struggled to contain his stolen-base threat even when avoiding his bat. 154
- Stole third base and scored on a squeeze play after reaching second against Sensen. 244
- Uses large leads and rapid starts to pressure pitchers and disrupt pickoff attempts. 390
- Is estimated to cover the 28-meter distance between bases in under three seconds. 363
- Combines speed with psychological gambits, though his technical baserunning is not portrayed as complete. 1010
Defense and Versatility
Sendou is an all-rounder capable of filling nearly any position. His range in center field permits Seidou to arrange its outfield more freely and compensate for teammates’ weaker coverage. 3 639
- Made multiple game-saving plays outside his normal defensive zone during Seidou’s match with Kiryu. 213
- Has been recognized as capable of playing both infield and outfield positions. 909
- Has also pitched in competition, though stamina limits the certainty of his effectiveness as a full-time pitcher. 470 654
- Was assigned to practice multiple positions and temporarily join the Second String to adapt to wooden bats. 1178
Game Analysis and Leadership
Sendou functions as Seidou’s “second brain” on the field behind catcher Miyuki Kazuya. He gathers information from small details, reads opponents’ psychology, and offers tailored advice to teammates. 296 450
- Analyzes pitchers’ condition, pitch selection, and psychological tendencies from game details. 139 450
- Coordinated stolen-base signals and pitch recognition with Captain Yuuki Tetsuya. 390
- Helped Furuya understand the cause of his poor pitching without directly giving him the answer. 482
- Privately prepared plans intended to accelerate Sawamura’s development. 469 470
- Offers position, batting, and career advice to teammates and juniors. 216 860 1152
Equipment / Items
- Baseball bat, including wooden bats used for specialized practice. 1152 1153
- Baseball glove; borrowed one to catch Asada’s pitches. 1004
