Background / History

Ye Xinglan is a former comrade of Gu Yue who fought alongside her before Gu Yue settled into domestic life with Tang Wulin. Concerned that Gu Yue has abandoned her cultivation and combat instincts, Xinglan confronts her over skipping sparring and devoting herself to cooking instead. Gu Yue redirects her toward a match with Xie Xie. 35

Her spar with Xie Xie becomes a humiliating defeat: he avoids direct combat with flash grenades, smoke, perfume, lubricant, and other disruptive soul tools. Xinglan recognizes that superior direct strength is not enough against an opponent who controls the battlefield through unconventional tactics, and resolves to train harder. 36
