Gu Yue was recognized as a nine-year-old prodigy capable of mastering seven elements. While preparing for an East Sea Spirit Pagoda assessment, she displayed a maturity that Li Jing found unusual for a child her age 21. Her decision to enter the Spirit Pagoda was deliberate: she wanted to understand humans and regarded the organization as having changed from a bridge between humans and soul beasts into an instrument for harvesting soul beasts 32.

Initially withdrawn around Tang Wulin’s group, Gu Yue’s actual objective was to obtain the Golden Dragon King’s Divine Core sealed within Tang Wulin. She remained emotionally distant even when the group called her their companion 27.

After arriving at the Spirit Pagoda, Gu Yue defeated Na'er while still a two-ring Soul Master and was accepted as Leng Yaoyu’s registered disciple 33. She later returned to Eastsea Academy for classes, but chose independently to leave after the Heavensea Alliance Tournament and join the Spirit Pagoda Headquarters with Ziyang and Na'er 50 58.

She is highly independent. Her choice to leave Eastsea Academy for the Spirit Pagoda was made without hesitation, and she intended to compensate the academy for any losses herself 58.
