"Woohoo!"
Compared to flying on a broomstick in the vast open sky, that little bit of space in the Warehouse offered a far worse experience.
The cool gale of an early summer morning howled past his ears, and his Wizard Robe billowed in the wind like a pair of black wings.
Its top speed of sixty miles per hour was equivalent to a car traveling a hundred kilometers per hour. It was not especially fast, but freely flying through the air without any obstacles was far more thrilling than driving on the ground.
Of course, this only worked in summer. If he flew like this in winter, he would probably end up at the hospital getting an IV and taking cold medicine the next day.
After flying for a while, just as he felt the freezing high-altitude wind was about to turn him into an idiot, Jerry began descending. He weaved between the skyscrapers and flew toward places he had previously been unable to reach.
Before, since he had relied entirely on his legs, his patrol range had not been large. He mainly operated in the streets and alleys around his neighborhood.
Moreover, because he appeared so often, the crime rate around the neighborhood had dropped significantly. As a result, his efficiency in earning Little Red Stars had also fallen considerably.
Now that he had a flying broomstick, he could expand his patrol range without worrying about getting home too late.
Flying through the air also gave him a much better view than he had from the ground, allowing him to spot illegal and criminal activity more accurately and quickly.
Queens, inside a duplex apartment on the top floor of an upscale residential building.
A family of three was tied up on the floor. Two masked home invaders, one tall and one skinny, were threatening the father—the head of the household—with knives, demanding the combination to the safe.
Although the father was furious, he reluctantly told the two intruders the combination to open the safe for his family's safety.
Just as the two robbers opened the bedroom safe and excitedly stuffed bundles of USD bills into a suitcase they had prepared in advance.
A black figure appeared outside the bedroom's glass window at some unknown point.
If I didn't have a flying broomstick, I really wouldn't have stumbled across something this good!
As Jerry flew between the skyscrapers on his broomstick, he happened to glance aside and saw someone committing a home invasion in a room in the neighboring building. He was immediately delighted.
He took out his wand and made a silencing gesture toward the little girl in the bedroom, who was being held by her mother and had widened her eyes the moment she saw him.
Jerry cast an Unlocking Charm at the bedroom window.
"Click!"
With a crisp sound, the window latch automatically sprang open.
Hearing the noise from the window and feeling the cool wind suddenly blow into the bedroom, the two robbers stuffing money into the suitcase, along with the father and mother staring fixedly at them, all turned their heads at once.
Then, all of them wore expressions of utter disbelief.
What did they see?
They saw a child dressed in a Halloween Wizard Suit, riding something that looked like a broomstick and hovering outside the window.
Hovering outside the window?
But how was that possible!
This was the twenty-eighth floor, more than a hundred meters above the ground!
"Good evening!"
After opening the window, Jerry politely waved his wand at the four stunned people inside.
Then, before the two robbers could recover from their shock, he pointed his wand at each of them and fired two beams of magic.
"Petrificus Totalus!"
The two robbers struck by the magical beams instantly stiffened all over and crashed to the floor with a clatter, the USD bills in their hands scattering everywhere.
The Full Body-Bind Curse was a spell Jerry had spent half a day finding in a magic book in the library called Curses and Curse-Breaking Charms.
It was an extremely practical offensive spell. Even with his level of magical power, it could instantly petrify an ordinary adult.
However, this petrification was different from the Basilisk's kind of petrification.
The Full Body-Bind Curse merely used magical power to bind one's body and limbs. Their eyes could still move, their consciousness remained intact, and their five senses and all other perceptions functioned normally.
After being hit by the spell, it could be removed with a general Counter-Curse, or it would wear off automatically once the duration ended.
The Basilisk's petrification was different. It truly turned someone into stone, leaving them unable to feel anything. If no method of reversing it could be found, they were little different from a corpse.
The two were not magic of the same level.
"Verdimillious!"
After restraining the two robbers, Jerry pointed his wand at the rope around the father's wrists and used a Transfiguration Charm to turn it into noodles.
Finally, he pointed his wand at the USD bills in the safe again.
"USD, come to me!"
Two one-hundred-dollar bills flew out of the safe and landed in his hand.
The Summoning Charm was a very ancient spell Jerry had learned from Guide to Medieval Wizardry. It was said that this spell would also be taught in the fourth-year Charms textbook.
Its function was simple, yet extremely useful.
When attempting to summon an object, one had to focus and clearly picture the object in one's mind. Then, no matter where it was, it would fly toward them.
However, it was a spell that was easy to learn but difficult to master.
Simply put, the weight, size, material, whether it possessed magic, the distance between it and the caster, and whether it was alive or inanimate would all affect the Summoning Charm's success rate.
Like now, Jerry could easily summon two light USD bills. But if he tried to summon that heavy safe directly, it would be much more difficult.
If the safe were not nearby but in another room, the difficulty would increase even further.
If he were summoning not a safe but an object imbued with magic or a living animal, the difficulty would rise dramatically.
Also, one could not use the Summoning Charm to summon a person. It would have no effect at all.
Even if he had mastered the Summoning Charm to perfection, he could not simply say, "Elsa, come to me," and summon his younger sister, who was currently sprawled out at home sleeping soundly.
"My magic can only hold them for ten minutes. Hurry up and call the police. These two bills are my payment for helping out!"
After stuffing the USD bills into his pocket, Jerry shot out through the window on his flying broomstick and vanished.
Having recovered his senses, the father immediately broke free from the noodles around his wrists, untied his wife and daughter, and ran to the window to stick his head out.
As he watched Jerry's figure on the flying broomstick gradually disappear into the sky, he could not help exclaiming:
"Oh my God... magic actually exists in this world!"
Remembering Jerry's mention of ten minutes, he quickly used the ropes to tie up the two home invaders immobilized by magic, then called the police.
