Toward evening, Jerry appeared in front of a detached little villa in Queens.

After following Old Hass home from work, he saw an elderly woman watering flowers at the entrance. She was Lisa Hathaway, Elsa's mother, who had died young in his own world.

The sight made Jerry sink into thought.

His understanding of how to advance from a single universe into a multiverse had always been vague. He knew that once a single universe took shape, it needed to continuously create planets and life in order to grow stronger.

But he had never been particularly clear on how a single universe, once it reached its peak, could develop into a multiverse.

Could he simply create another Ring Universe?

Clearly, it was not that simple. If all he had to do was create another Ring Universe, he could do so immediately. But that would merely amount to adding another universe and would do nothing to increase his strength.

That was because the newly created universe would have no connection to the first. It would be like carving out a portion of space from the first universe and calling it a new universe. In essence, it would still be one universe and would not achieve a leap in level.

He had discussed the matter with Ankhseram before, but Ankhseram's path toward the multiverse was clearly not part of the same system as his own, so there was limited value in drawing from it.
