Yao trained in swordsmanship from childhood and relies heavily on her paired blades in battle. She also works as a monster-hunting mercenary, but her tendency to spend freely on luxuries leaves her short of cash despite her earnings. 43

She is a member of the Witch Band alongside Saroye, Felia, and Black Cat. Initially serving as its guitarist, Yao becomes determined to write new lyrics and prove herself worthy of the lead-vocalist position, particularly in response to Saroye's criticism. 42 44

Witch Band and the Lyric Search

Yao runs away from rehearsal to seek inspiration for new lyrics, frustrated by Saroye's criticism and desperate to earn recognition as the band's lead vocalist. Li Xuan approaches her under disguise and uses lyrics taken from Tang Xi to gain her trust. 42

Unable to pay Li Xuan's requested price, Yao agrees to his exploitative terms in exchange for the lyrics. She later defeats a Grade B monster and brings the song back to the Witch Band, which chooses her as lead vocalist for its next performance. 43

Concert Invasion and Capture

During the Witch Band's performance, Yao discovers that Li Xuan was the source of the lyrics and pursues him in anger. Her pursuit leads her through a portal into the Delusive Badlands, where she is captured. 45 46

Li Xuan subjects her to recurring nightmares, but Yao's attachment to the Witch Band keeps her resolve intact. Even after a passive Awakening is recorded, she continues resisting and launches Final Cry: Yao Character Slash against Li Xuan. 49 50 51

Music Festival and Duel with Yuriko

As the Witch Band's lead vocalist, Yao helps secure victory at the music festival and publicly taunts runner-up Yuriko. 71
