After looking through the options, Aburame Shibi's gaze settled on a mission.
Escort a merchant caravan to the Grass Country Trading Company. It was ranked B and offered a reward of 400,000 ryo. Normally, a B-rank mission would not pay this much, but this one seemed somewhat special.
The caravan was quite large, and the mission notice specified that multiple teams could accept it, which was why the offered pay was so generous.
After giving it some thought, Aburame Shibi decided to accept the mission.
Among the missions available to his team, this one offered the highest reward. Even after accounting for the share taken by the other teams, it was still a considerable sum.
He himself was not short on money, but it would naturally be good to let Hyuga Satoru and the others earn a little more.
"Hello, please accept this mission for me." Aburame Shibi pointed expressionlessly at the mission on the list and spoke to the ninja at the administration desk.
"It's Lord Shibi. I'll process it right away." The administrator responded and immediately began recording it.
After thinking for a moment, Aburame Shibi asked, "Besides our team, have any other teams accepted this mission?"
The person in charge thought for a while. "There should be one other team, but I don't remember which one."
"Is that so?" Aburame Shibi nodded and turned to look at Anko and the others.
Hyuga Satoru stood in the middle with his clothes in disarray. Beside him, Uchiha Rin and Anko, who had failed to find any beauty-whitening secrets, seemed to still be whispering about something.
"Uh..." Sensing Hyuga Satoru's resentful gaze, Aburame Shibi suddenly felt a chill run down his spine. "The mission has been accepted. We should hurry over..."
He said this with a shudder.
At the entrance to Konoha Village, Hyuga Satoru spotted a fairly sizable caravan parked in the distance.
As they drew closer, they suddenly heard an argument.
Their brows furrowed, and they quickened their pace. A surprising sight came into view.
A tall ninja in a green jumpsuit kept bowing to someone, apologizing and pleading repeatedly. Beside him, another ninja wearing the same style of jumpsuit kept trying to pull him away.
"Father, why are you apologizing to someone like this? At worst, we just won't do this mission."
"Guy! You don't understand. Without the reward from this mission, we won't be able to survive much longer."
After scolding the ninja pulling at him, the tall ninja bowed once more to the Jonin leading the team, burying his head deeply against his chest.
"Please forgive us! I promise I won't make the same mistake again!"
Once Hyuga Satoru saw the man's face clearly, he froze. "Senior Duy?"
"Satoru, do you know that ninja?" Uchiha Rin looked at him in surprise.
A trace of concern appeared in Anko's eyes as she explained to Uchiha Rin, "Rin, his name is Might Duy. He's the father of Might Guy, one of our classmates."
"Oh." Uchiha Rin responded. She did not have much of an impression of Might Guy, only finding him somewhat familiar. In truth, she generally did not pay much attention to weaker students in the class.
Just then, the Jonin standing before Might Duy showed an impatient expression and waved him off. "Go, go! Guess I'm just unlucky to have recruited you two into my team."
"Wasn't it just one overturned crate? We already cleaned it up. Why are you still being so aggressive?" Might Guy finally could not hold back any longer. He clenched his fists and glared furiously at the Jonin.
"Guy!" Might Duy grabbed him at once and said anxiously, "It was already not easy for them to let us join the team. I was the one who clumsily made the mistake. Hurry and apologize to Captain Ryosuke."
Guy looked aggrieved, almost on the verge of tears. "But we already cleaned it up."
After roughly hearing what had happened, a hint of anger appeared in Anko's eyes. "That's awful."
Hyuga Satoru frowned. After thinking it over, he strode quickly toward them.
"Hey! Have you people finished discussing this or not? Our caravan is about to depart. If this keeps up, it'll delay the schedule."
Hearing the merchant leader's impatient voice, the team-leading Jonin named Tanai Ryosuke put on an apologetic smile and said somewhat awkwardly, "I'm terribly sorry! We'll take care of it right away."
When his gaze returned to Might Duy and Guy, it was filled with undisguised disgust and disdain.
"Did you hear that? The caravan is about to leave. You should get going already! Don't delay the caravan's journey."
Just then, a voice came from behind them.
"Wait!"
Tanai Ryosuke looked over, and his brows immediately furrowed. Byakugan? A Hyuga ninja? What was he doing here?
Hyuga Satoru smiled faintly at the bewildered Might Guy and his father.
"Guy, have you graduated already?"
"You're... Hyuga Satoru?"
After recognizing Hyuga Satoru, Guy scratched his head somewhat embarrassedly.
"I just graduated and haven't been assigned a team-leading Jonin yet, so I came out with my father to do missions and help support the family."
"Why are you here too?"
"I'm here to complete a mission too." Hyuga Satoru smiled.
"Guy... who is he?"
"His name is Hyuga Satoru. He was my classmate. Father, you should have heard of him—the Hyuga Clan genius who awakened a Second Bloodline." Guy introduced him to Duy excitedly.
Though the two had not interacted much as classmates, a genius from a great clan with two bloodlines would always leave a deep impression on everyone.
"So it's him!" Might Duy clenched his right fist and slapped it into his left palm, looking enlightened.
Hearing their conversation, Tanai Ryosuke narrowed his eyes and looked Hyuga Satoru up and down. He had never heard of any double bloodline, but that watermelon-head had just said they were classmates. That meant this guy was just a brat who had recently graduated.
"Hey, did you just say you were here to complete a mission too?" Ryosuke narrowed his eyes at Hyuga Satoru.
"This is a multi-team mission. We accepted it as well. Is there a problem?" Hyuga Satoru stared back at him.
"Besides..." He turned to Might Duy and Guy with a smile. "Senior Duy, Guy, since this team does not want to keep you, why not join mine instead?"
"Satoru, how could we..." Duy and Guy were at a loss.
A cold glint flashed in Tanai Ryosuke's eyes. "Kid, you said you accepted this mission. Do you have proof? This is a B-rank mission. If I were your team-leading Jonin, I would never let you come here and cause trouble. You..."
Before he could finish, a cold voice suddenly rang out.
"Are you teaching me how to do things?"
Tanai Ryosuke froze and looked toward the voice. A ninja wearing black sunglasses and wrapped in a loose robe stood there, holding up a mission commission document toward him.
"This is the commission document for the mission we accepted. That counts as proof, doesn't it? Also, I agree to let those two join my team. Do you have any objections?"
Once Tanai Ryosuke saw the newcomer's face clearly, his body suddenly began trembling uncontrollably. Fear appeared in his eyes as he stammered.
"L-Lord Shibi... So it was you. You should have said so earlier. I... I wouldn't dare object to you."
Was he supposed to dare have objections to Aburame Shibi?
Aburame Shibi's reputation among Konoha's Jonin was far too great. He was an absolute monster! Ordinary Jonin were nothing more than easy prey before him. Any ninja who fought him met a miserable end, devoured by insects until not even scraps remained!
Tanai Ryosuke looked at Hyuga Satoru as though he wanted to cry. Why hadn't he said earlier that his teacher was Aburame Shibi? Was there any need to offend that monster?
It was over. Should he move to another village and start a new life?
