Boom! A massive boulder crashed down, sending dust billowing everywhere. A moment later—
"Are you okay, Rin? Kakashi?"
Kakashi whipped his head around. Obito was pinned beneath the massive boulder, half his body completely crushed and unable to move. Rubble and dirt mixed with blood, spreading beneath him in a dark red pool.
"Obito!" Kakashi rushed over and gripped the edge of the boulder with both hands. Chakra erupted as he tried to lift it, but the stone did not budge.
"Enough, Kakashi." Obito's voice was so weak it was nearly inaudible. "I'm already... done for... The right side of my body has been crushed... I can't even feel it anymore."
Kakashi's hands trembled. He did not stop. He kept straining, his nails breaking as blood stained the stone.
"Come to think of it... I forgot..." Obito closed his eyes, though the corners of his mouth lifted slightly. "I'm the only one... who never gave you a gift to celebrate becoming a Jonin."
Kakashi froze. Rin knelt beside Obito, tears silently streaming down her face.
"Kakashi, I've decided now." Obito opened the one eye he could still move, fixing his gaze on Kakashi's face. "Don't worry. It's not some useless, unnecessary thing. I'll give you... my Sharingan."
Kakashi's pupils abruptly contracted.
"This is... my final gift." Obito's voice grew softer and softer.
"Protect Rin... for me."
When everything finally fell silent, Kakashi's left eye had become a scarlet Sharingan.
Three tomoe slowly spun within his pupil, reflecting the direction in which Obito had vanished.
He knelt on the ground, his right hand covering that eye as blood seeped through his fingers.
Rin stood beside him, tears blurring her vision.
"You're awake, Kakashi." Minato turned to look at Kakashi beside him.
Kakashi abruptly scrambled up. He was covered in wounds,
