As the One-Tail Shukaku rampaged mercilessly, Root members continued to suffer casualties. They were like mantises trying to stop a chariot; there was clearly no way to stop Shukaku.
"Why haven't the reinforcements arrived yet?" Danzo Shimura sensed that something was wrong.
Several years ago, Konoha Village had been rocked by an incident that shocked the Ninja World. Itachi Uchiha slaughtered his own clan, an event later known as the "Uchiha Clan Massacre."
After that incident, the Third Hokage stripped Danzo of his advisory position, sidelined him, and even disbanded Root.
But in reality, Root had always remained. It had never truly been disbanded. Quite a few of its core members had even been reassigned to the ANBU.
Though those Root members had been incorporated into the ANBU and changed organizations, they still secretly pledged their loyalty to Danzo Shimura.
Now that the One-Tail Shukaku was attacking Danzo Shimura's secret base, the Root members who had previously been scattered should have returned to protect their master.
Danzo Shimura waited for a long time. Nearly half of his remaining forces had been lost, and they were on the verge of total annihilation, yet no reinforcements appeared.
Strange, very strange... Danzo Shimura thought. The reinforcements are far too late, and what Naruto Uzumaki said doesn't make sense either...
"Lord Hokage!" Seeing Danzo hesitate and refuse to act for so long, Naruto hurriedly said, "So many strange things happened today. Why do you think the Sand Ninja joined forces with the Sound Ninja?"
"But no matter what, the crisis before us is real. This monster is truly powerful." Naruto said indignantly, "It's my fault for not having the Third Hokage's strength. Otherwise, I would have taken down this monster long ago..."
