Fury could even trace the destination of every byte.
Washington, Berlin, Madripoor...
He waited.
Patiently waiting for Garrett to finish sending every last word.
This was exactly what he wanted.
Let fear spread through Hydra. Let them move, let them make contact, let them expose themselves.
"Finished?"
Two minutes later, Fury set down his glass.
Garrett's wrist stopped trembling. The messages had all been sent.
He let out a long breath, a victor's smile appearing on his face.
"Finished."
Garrett shrugged, looking utterly resigned to his fate.
"Now you can have that alien bastard kill me. But I guarantee your alien masters will soon find that Earth isn't so easy to swallow."
"You're wrong about two things, John."
Fury slowly walked toward Garrett.
The temperature in the room began to rise with every step he took.
"First, I have no masters."
"Second..."
Fury stopped before Garrett and bent down.
His skin began to peel away as raging flames burst from his skull.
Within Fury's hollow eye sockets, it seemed as though all of hell lay hidden.
"...I don't need aliens to kill you."
"...Look into my eyes!!"
Fury let out a low growl.
His voice sounded like the judgment of a magistrate from hell.
Garrett's expression froze. He saw countless faces.
The people he had killed, the agents he had betrayed, the innocents who had died because of his orders.
"Th-this... what is this..."
Garrett tried to close his eyes, but some invisible force seemed to hold his eyelids open, forcing him to stare directly into the flames.
"Aaaaahhhh—!!!"
His agonized screams echoed through the room.
Every sin he had committed in the past turned into the purest pain and rebounded upon him.
As his pupils turned to charcoal, his entire body collapsed limply to the floor, devoid of life.
