He groaned in pain, clutched his heavy head with both hands, and struggled to lift his face off the sour-smelling counter.

The hangover had left his mouth dry and his stomach churning.

He shook his head slightly, then opened his eyes. His vision was blurry, and he squinted as he looked around.

"Awake, Sleeping Beauty?"

Behind the bar, the bartender glanced at him while polishing a glass, then slid over a glass of lemon water packed with ice and two aspirin tablets.
