Homelander tapped the holographic screen on the table and played a video.
Wearing headphones, Quill stood beside a fountain in Times Square, New York, wildly gyrating his hips in an awkward eighties disco dance while shouting, "Vote for Star-Lord, the coolest man in the Milky Way!"
Passersby avoided him as though he were an idiot.
"Look at this, Quill." Homelander pointed at the screen. "Do you think this is cool?"
Quill felt somewhat embarrassed under Homelander's stare, but he still tried to argue. "I... I was connecting with the public! I was showing off my personal charm!"
"Your charm earned you the nickname 'Idiot Quill.'" Homelander cut him off. "You made Vought Group lose face along with you."
"You didn't even make the top hundred in approval ratings. Why should I go against the will of all humanity and let you join the team, Star-Lord?"
"But I..." Quill opened his mouth, only to realize he had no way to refute it.
"Listen, Peter." Homelander tapped his fingers against the desk. "Starting today, follow Captain Rogers and learn how to be a qualified hero."
"If you stop being an idiot before we leave, I'll consider letting you travel with the team to the arena as a reserve."
"A reserve?" Star-Lord's eyes widened. "Me? Peter Quill? Captain of the Guardians of the Galaxy, becoming a reserve?"
"Either be a reserve, or get the hell out of Vought right now." Homelander could not be bothered to waste words on him and issued an ultimatum.
Homelander was not joking.
He had only recruited the unruly Star-Lord because of the Guardians of the Galaxy label hanging over his head.
Bringing him along could at least draw some extra popularity from every corner of the universe.
