In the dead of night.
The sound of a clapper drifted from afar, only to be swiftly swallowed by the wind.
The young man with a feminine air slowly opened his eyes.
"The time has come."
The moment he spoke, the dozen or so people in the cell rose to their feet in unison.
"Finally!"
Second Dog—Li Gui—clutched his bare wrist and rose with a hateful glare. "I'm going to tear that bitch into ten thousand pieces!"
"Brother Dog, don't forget the important matter."
"Hmph!" Second Dog snorted coldly. He walked to the heavy iron door, gathered his demonic power, and shoved hard.
The iron door did not budge.
"Don't waste your strength."
The feminine-looking young man stepped forward, his voice calm. "The outer walls of Jade Gate Pass's prison are made of specially crafted blue bricks, while the inside is poured with hundred-forged mystic iron. Forget us—even if a True Lord came in person, breaking it open would not be easy."
"Then what do we do?" one demon asked anxiously.
The feminine young man did not answer. He merely turned his gaze toward another scrawny man who had remained silent all this time.
"It's your turn."
The man nodded. His body abruptly shrank, his bones letting out a series of crisp cracks.
In the blink of an eye, a living man had turned into a tiny black snake no thicker than a thumb.
The black snake flicked its tongue, twisted its body, and silently slipped out through the narrow gap beneath the door.
Inside the cell, all the demons held their breath.
A moment later.
Click.
The heavy iron door was slowly pushed open a crack.
The black snake slipped back through the gap and transformed into a human again. Yet his face held a trace of strange confusion.
