Yondu was the old space pirate who had taken Star-Lord from Earth and raised him to adulthood. He belonged to a loose Ravagers organization.

Come to think of it, his skin was purple, just like Nebula's. Who knew whether they were from the same race?

His signature skill was the Whistling Arrow. By using the sound of his whistle, he controlled a Cloud-Piercing Arrow that was more than ten times more effective than an energy gun.

It could pierce through dozens of hearts in an instant.

In the original story, he had two classic battles.

Once, he was surrounded by dozens of Nova soldiers. They did not understand his special skill, giving him the chance to whistle under their guns.

As a result, dozens of soldiers and a combat ship were instantly destroyed by his Cloud-Piercing Arrow.

The other time was in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. When his subordinates mutinied, he used a single arrow to slaughter every mutinous Ravager aboard the mothership.

Yondu had taken Star-Lord from Earth only because Star-Lord's father, Ego, had hired him to do so.

Later, after discovering Ego's scheme, he could not bear to hand the still-young Star-Lord over.

So he kept him by his side and raised him.

He had even come up with a flimsy excuse, saying that children could squeeze into cramped places more easily to steal things.

Who knew whether he was fooling those Ravagers under him or fooling Star-Lord?

Their relationship was much like Gamora and Nebula's.

On the surface, they constantly bickered and shouted about killing each other, yet neither would ever truly kill the other.
