Towering, unbroken redwood forests covered everything along the eastern coast, stretching on for hundreds of miles. Only when a long river divided and flowed through, with rolling hills encircling it, did a quiet lagoon appear before everyone's eyes. The Zheyang Sea Ship made a nimble turn and sailed in from the estuary, entering the lagoon that ran for sixty or seventy miles. What came toward them were broad stretches of sheds and fields along the lakeshore.
Hundreds of Wiyot tribespeople were busy between the lakeside camp and the farmland. They had always been skilled fishermen, but now they had also begun learning to grow corn and potatoes. Behind them, a flag of the Main God was tied to a tall Redwood Tree, the pattern of the Sun Hummingbird flying in the wind among the leaves. This was the kingdom's Lake Bay Port.
The one in charge of Lake Bay Port was Xi Feng, who was also the grandson of Citli, patriarch of the Crow Family. Hearing that the kingdom's sea ship had arrived, the young priest in his early twenties hurried out to welcome it with his wife, Tulan, the Wiyot female chief ten years older than him. Three step-sons around ten years old, along with a two-year-old son, also hopped and skipped along behind them, curiously going to look at the big sea ship.
When Scholar Miki walked into the camp and looked around at the cheering tribespeople welcoming them, he saw many, many similar tribal families. After two years of development, the present Lake Bay Port already had a full eight hundred people! Among them, those from the kingdom's homeland made up roughly one-tenth, firmly controlling the leadership of the entire camp. And nearly half of the tribespeople were in-laws of the Kingdom Warriors and sailors.
