Moonlight flowed like water, yet firelight flickered through the night. The first Gunpowder Arrow streaked over the palisade and burst into a spray of sparks, flying an astonishing distance before setting a thatched hut in the rear ablaze. Then dozens more Gunpowder Arrows came one after another, their flames carving wild, tangled arcs across the night sky, like blazing spears hurled in divine wrath. Sparks fell all over the camp. In the blink of an eye, flames spread, and whether palisade, grass hut, or haystack, all flared up together wherever the arrows landed.
"Dios mío! Lord above! Gunpowder Arrows? How can barbarians use such things of Purgatory?"
Heavenly Fire flashed everywhere, and the dim glow lit the stunned faces of the Castilian Expeditionary Force.
