A fierce rain of arrows rose from the great bows on both sides of the longships, bringing a sharp deathly tremor with it. Savage bone arrows arrived in the blink of an eye; fifty paces was already close enough for precision. The Ciguayos hunters in the small boats had only just raised their short hunting bows when they let out a string of screams, and fell in swaths beneath the incoming arrows. These sharp bone arrows carried such heavy force that even a grazing hit meant a piercing, grievous wound.

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"

Before the screams had died down, the second volley followed, wounding more than twenty warriors. After two rounds of arrow rain, the cluster of Ciguayos canoes gathered to meet the attack scattered quickly like a wounded school of fish. Warrior chief Purple Falcon clenched his teeth, crouching low in a small boat at the rear, and cursed in shocked fury.

"Damn it! Damn it! Arrows this powerful?! What tribe of fine archers is this? Ancestors in the lake, these are absolutely not the gentle Taino!"

Grey Earth Puapu roared in the heat of battle, personally loosing arrows from the prow. The enemy wore no armor; cheap bone arrows were enough to kill. Amid the shouting, the seven ferocious longships had already charged to within a dozen paces.

The Kingdom archers in armor aboard the longships all stood behind the shields on either side, fully exposing their figures. Their expressions were calm. Even on the jolting ships in motion, their arms remained steady as they aimed at the enemies close at hand.
