The moon had climbed to the treetops, and the sea wind carried a distant scent. When night fell, the nocturnal creatures in the jungle began their searching and hunting.

A young bobcat moved without a sound, following the faint fishy smell in the wind to the edge of the jungle. It hesitated for a long time, because ahead were many terrifying bonfires, and many two-legged beasts walking back and forth. But in the end, it still continued forward, following that fish-scented aroma to a tent without firelight. It crept to the edge of the tent, only to be frightened by a low growl and leap back on the spot.

The low growls inside the tent came in fits and starts, and there were faint sounds of crying and calling too, like a jaguar biting down on a fawn. That "fawn" kept struggling, letting out sorrowful whimpers, resisting and trying to flee, yet always had its long legs caught, escaping a short distance before being dragged back again.

"Meow meow?..."

The bobcat blinked, then sniffed with its little cat nose. It smelled a strong fishy scent that seemed to come from the two beasts before its eyes. But beasts this huge and dangerous, locked in such fierce slaughter, were beyond its ability to hunt. Then its nose twitched, and it quickly found two other sources of the fishy smell: an emptied pottery bowl and a damp bundle of cotton cloth.
