Great volleys of Fire Arrows gave shrieking cries as they flew, carrying the soft hiss of burning flame as they shot toward the center of the battlefield at sea. And among the wildly streaking fire arrows, besides the ignited Black Oil arrows, there were also Gunpowder Fire Arrows that burned even more fiercely; with the boost of gunpowder, they flew farther in chaotic arcs!

Black Wolf Toltec narrowed his eyes and took aim at the nearest Maya Galley. He estimated the arrow's path, then raised his hand and loosed an expensive Gunpowder Arrow. Yet that hissing, burning arrow crossed more than a hundred paces and was just about to strike the galley's sail when it suddenly veered aside, the arrow pitching upward!
"Ah!..."
A shrill scream rang out across the battlefield, only to be drowned beneath even fiercer shouts of killing. The flying Fire Arrow had long since strayed from its path, shooting a full two hundred paces before slanting down toward the rear of the battlefield and bursting into a ball of flame!
An eastern tribe warrior on a small boat was hurling a shuttle-dart when he was set alight by the flame falling from the sky. He let out a terrified scream, then jumped into the water with a splash, thrashing about wildly and blundering straight into the center of the melee! He strained to lift his head, trying to put out the flames on his body, like a water dog struggling to swim. And through his panicked, reddened vision, all he could see were battle canoes ramming and slaughtering one another, long spears stabbing in every direction, javelins and arrows shooting madly, and corpses and wounded men constantly falling into the water!
