Background / History
Chen Mo is the daughter of Yongsheng Martial Arts Hall master Chen Lutang and the elder sister of Chen Bin. Unlike her younger brother, she understands that the hall’s standing depends on the Xie family’s patronage, wealth, and political influence as much as martial strength. 17
She accompanied Chen Bin to Xie Residence with three chests of manuals at Xie An’s request. There, she explained that the incomplete Five Animal True Form Diagram was a conceptual martial art created by frontier hunters through observing primordial beasts, rather than a technique with a conventional cultivation method. 17 18
Following the Monster Strain incident at Zhao Hu’s residence, Uncle Shui ordered Chen Mo to remain temporarily at Xie Residence, publicly claiming that Xie An had invited her to train with him. She became his regular sparring partner and instructor after he began cultivating weapon techniques. 28 39
After Xie An secretly damaged his spirit through the Spirit Preservation Method, he offered to provide Chen Mo with Treasure Fish and Rune-veined Ginseng in exchange for her personal allegiance. She accepted, becoming Xie An’s trusted subordinate rather than merely a member of the Xie Household’s affiliated martial hall. 46
Appearance
Chen Mo is a beautiful, upright woman with a fit, disciplined build shaped by year-round martial training. She is commonly seen in fitted blue or green martial attire and carries a longsword. 17 26 46
- Calm, valiant bearing and a straight, athletic figure. 17 28
- Long hair, often worn loose after combat or travel. 28
- Usually carries a silver longsword. 26
Personality
Chen Mo is pragmatic, mature, and acutely aware of social hierarchy. She repeatedly corrects Chen Bin’s arrogance, emphasizing that rules and martial reputation cannot outweigh the Xie family’s influence. 17
She is disciplined in martial arts, having trained from childhood through fifteen years of constant practice. Her initial caution around Xie An becomes astonishment and wary respect after witnessing his impossible rate of progress and the danger of Withered Abyss. 40 41
Although reluctant when first ordered to remain as Xie An’s sparring partner, Chen Mo recognizes both the value of his patronage and his exceptional potential. Her willingness to prepare medicine, test it herself, and accept private allegiance reflects her growing trust in him. 41 46 47
