Personality

Zhao Wuji is impulsive and opportunistic. He intervenes against Duan Yu because rescuing the attacked Fourth Prince Xue Beng could benefit Shrek Academy, but he misjudges both Duan Yu’s identity and combat strength 23.

He is capable of adapting when faced with danger: after realizing Duan Yu’s strength exceeds his expectations, he escalates through increasingly powerful soul skills and eventually attempts to negotiate. However, he remains fearful and desperate once his strongest techniques fail 33 35.

• Xue Beng — Zhao Wuji intervenes to rescue the Fourth Prince, but Duan Yu’s Star Transposition turns Zhao Wuji’s attack back onto Xue Beng and leaves him severely injured 23.
• Meng Shenji, Bai Baoshan, and Zhilin — Allied in the ambush against Duan Yu after Zhao Wuji’s defeat; Bai Baoshan later carries the unconscious Zhao Wuji away during the withdrawal 35 37.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Xue Beng Incident

Zhao Wuji arrives as Duan Yu is preparing to kill Xue Beng and attempts to capture Duan Yu in hopes of gaining favor for Shrek Academy. Duan Yu repeatedly evades him, then uses Star Transposition to redirect Zhao Wuji’s attack into Xue Beng, seriously injuring the prince instead 23.

The incident leaves Zhao Wuji as the primary suspect in Xue Beng’s attack. He refuses imperial imprisonment and flees, further strengthening public suspicion against him 32.

Duel with Duan Yu

Duan Yu tracks Zhao Wuji to Shrek Academy and ambushes him. Zhao Wuji responds with his Mighty Vajra Bear, gravity skills, defensive techniques, and Martial Soul Avatar, but cannot overcome Duan Yu’s spatial abilities or dragon-bloodline suppression 33 34.

After Duan Yu uses the Mountain Dragon King’s power to defeat him and leave him unconscious in a crater, Meng Shenji, Bai Baoshan, Zhilin, and several Soul Emperors ambush Duan Yu. The apparent pursuit of Zhao Wuji is revealed as bait to draw Duan Yu into a trap 35.

Bai Baoshan ultimately orders a retreat after Duan Yu injures the three Soul Douluos with temporal-spatial techniques. He carries Zhao Wuji away and publicly rejects the claim that Zhao Wuji’s testimony alone proves Duan Yu attacked Xue Beng 37.
