"Submit or die."
Before absolute power, the two ten-thousand-year electric eels chose the former without hesitation.
Ursula nodded in satisfaction and extended her bone staff. Two twisted, intricate magical contract runes condensed at its tip.
"In the name of Ursula, the deep-sea witch, I grant you new names and a new mission."
"From this day forth, you shall be called Hu Shan and Jia Shan. Bring me guests, guard my cave, and convey my will."
Two magical contract brands struck deep into the souls of the two electric eels.
"Hiss—!" The two electric eels let out submissive hisses toward Ursula.
Afterward, they swiftly began swimming through the waters occupied by Ursula, spreading tales of the deep-sea witch.
Before long, through Hu Shan and Jia Shan's tireless efforts, Ursula's first customer came to her door.
It was an enormous ten-thousand-year Giant-Clawed Demon Crab, but its shell was covered in cracks.
Its territory, its mate, and its offspring had all been taken and devoured by a stronger Deep-Sea Sabertooth Shark King.
Only through its formidable strength had it barely escaped. Yet its heart was filled with despair and resentment. It longed for revenge, longed to reclaim everything.
But its strength was insufficient to accomplish this, and it happened to encounter Hu Shan and Jia Shan as they spread legends of the deep-sea witch through the waters.
With no other choice, it decided to trust the two ten-thousand-year eels.
Hu Shan and Jia Shan led it into the gloomy Fishbone Cave.
The inside of the cave had been altered by Ursula's magic. Huge glowing jellyfish were imprisoned along the rock walls as lamps, casting an eerie, sickly green light.
Jagged strange rocks resembled twisted ghostly shadows. At the center stood an altar formed from a massive giant clam shell, upon which Ursula's enormous body coiled.
The Giant-Clawed Demon Crab trembled at the sinister sight before it and the terrifying pressure radiating from Ursula, nearly turning around to flee.
"Speak your wish, lost soul."
Ursula's voice was like a siren's song, entering the Giant-Clawed Demon Crab's mind directly, full of temptation.
"I can see the flame in your heart—the flame of revenge. How sweet."
In truth, given Ursula's strength, she could have simply devoured the Giant-Clawed Demon Crab directly. The gains would have been greater than anything she could acquire through a trade.
Ursula was a deep-sea witch with professional ethics. Compared with draining a pond dry for fish, she preferred long-term customers.
Furthermore, Ursula had learned from Lin Wan that gods existed in this new world.
There were two ways to become a god. One was to accept an inheritance of divine power, while the other was to gather faith and create a new divine position.
Compared to accepting someone else's divine inheritance, Ursula preferred creating a divine position that belonged solely to herself.
She wanted the name of the deep-sea witch to spread throughout the entire ocean, allowing her to become a god in this world.
However, the truth was that Ursula knew no god would pass down a divine inheritance to her given her appearance, so she could only take the second path to godhood.
Under Ursula's powerful mental guidance, the Giant-Clawed Demon Crab's mental defenses quickly collapsed, and it told Ursula of its hatred and desires.
"Power. You need power sufficient to tear your enemy apart."
Ursula's eyes gleamed greedily.
"I can give you something that will temporarily erupt with power, enough to severely injure or even kill that Shark King. But the price is half of your life essence. And after the deed is done, you must sacrifice the Shark King Soul Crystal to me."
A contract scroll formed from seawater and unknown energy appeared before the Giant-Clawed Demon Crab.
Its terms of trade were written upon it in soul script.
Half of its life essence meant that even if it succeeded in taking revenge, it would be severely weakened.
But the Giant-Clawed Demon Crab did not care. After all, strength could be cultivated back.
The flames of revenge had long burned away the Giant-Clawed Demon Crab's reason. It did not hesitate and, under Ursula's guidance, signed the contract with its soul mark.
Ursula smiled in satisfaction.
She extended a tentacle, and a drop of viscous dark-purple venom condensed at its tip before being flicked into the Giant-Clawed Demon Crab's wound.
"Go! Take my gift and reclaim everything you lost."
"And remember, spread the name of the great deep-sea witch Ursula throughout the deep sea."
Several days later, Hu Shan returned with a Shark King Soul Crystal containing vast energy, along with half a portion of life essence forcibly sacrificed in fulfillment of the contract by the severely wounded, dying Giant-Clawed Demon Crab.
Ursula absorbed the soul crystal and life essence, felt the slight growth of power within her body, and let out a low laugh.
Her first transaction in these unfamiliar waters had been completed perfectly.
And the reputation of Ursula, the deep-sea witch, began spreading through certain waters and among the sea soul beast ranks.
In the time that followed, Ursula welcomed quite a few more customers.
A Bloodweeping Siren banished by its clan and longing to return traded the permanent use of its beautiful singing voice for an Illusion Conch capable of deceiving its clan.
A ten-thousand-year old turtle nearing the end of its lifespan and yearning to break through its bottleneck to extend its life offered Deep-Sea Sinking Silver it had collected for a thousand years and a strange pearl in exchange for Tortoise-Breath Elixir prepared by Ursula. The elixir contained considerable life energy, enough for the ten-thousand-year old turtle to break through this bottleneck.
A Phosphorescent Jellyfish Clan trapped in a deep-sea whirlpool and on the verge of extinction offered half of its phosphorescent essence in exchange for Ursula's intervention to temporarily calm the whirlpool and open a passage.
The wishes of these sea soul beasts were strange and varied, and their prices differed as well.
Each time, Ursula accurately grasped every sea soul beast's limits, trading what they desired most for what they possessed that was most precious or held the greatest potential.
Through transaction after transaction with these sea soul beasts, Ursula's strength steadily increased. Through her conversations with them, she also gained more information about these waters.
For example, these waters contained a place where a god's inheritance was passed down: Sea God Island.
Naturally, Ursula wanted to go there and accept the Sea God's inheritance. But when she learned from the sea soul beasts that the Sea God's inheritance would not be given to sea soul beasts of the ocean, she mocked this Sea God.
What kind of Sea God was that? He had only attained godhood by gathering the faith of sea soul beasts, yet he dared discriminate against sea soul beasts.
Ursula was filled with disgust toward this Sea God, who was also named Poseidon. And when she learned that her mortal enemy Ariel was currently on Sea God Island and had a chance to undergo the Sea God's inheritance, Ursula became even angrier.
Damn Sea God, he even discriminated against the soul beast race.
Why could the merfolk accept the Sea God's inheritance? This was utterly unfair!
