North of Kunlun, there was water whose current could not even bear a mustard seed, hence named Weakwater.
Weakwater, famed for not floating a goose feather and drowning all who fell in, was truly a major peril in the Wild Continent.
Yet at this moment, a twelve-petal white lotus platform drifted within the Weakwater, and a human youth lay flat upon it.
As the morning sun rose, its soft radiance spilled across the youth's face. He seemed to awaken from a dream and slowly opened his eyes.
Li Yu surveyed his surroundings with a dazed gaze, for a moment unable to recognize where he was. It was not until he saw the white lotus carrying him that a flood of memories suddenly surged into his mind, freezing his entire body in an instant.
In short, he had traveled through time into the Wild Continent, where the Heavenly Dao regarded him as a congenital being born in company with the congenital spiritual treasure, the Twelve-Petal Pure World White Lotus.
The Twelve-Petal Pure World White Lotus is a congenital spiritual treasure, its defense second only to supreme congenital treasures like the Chaos Bell and the Taiji Diagram. Moreover, it can suppress karmic luck and is an extraordinary treasure.
After digesting the extra memories in his mind, Li Yu immediately stowed away his accompanying spiritual treasure, transformed into a stream of light, and headed toward Mount Kunlun. As a congenital being recognized by the Heavenly Dao, he was extraordinary from birth; not only was his cultivation already at the Primordial Immortal Realm, but he also intuitively mastered many divine powers and arts without a teacher.
Mount Kunlun was a rare blessed land in the Wild Continent, second only to Mount Buzhou, and later became the dao field of the saint Yuanshi Tianzun. For now, however, it had yet to become a saintly dao field, and many congenital beings were practicing in seclusion here.
Li Yu came here to seek a place for secluded cultivation. Although he was currently in the Primordial Immortal Realm, this realm was actually quite low, with six major realms still ahead: the True Immortal Realm, the Earth Immortal Realm, the Heavenly Immortal Realm, the Golden Immortal Realm, the Quasi-Saint, and the Saint.
From the Primordial Immortal Realm to the Golden Immortal Realm, there were only five realms, but before the Dao Ancestor preached the Dao, the Wild Continent lacked a complete cultivation system. Crossing these five realms was by no means easy. Otherwise, among so many congenital beings, only twenty or thirty were able to go to the Purple Cloud Palace to listen to the Dao, every single one of them a mighty figure whose name shook the Wild Continent.
To go to the Purple Cloud Palace to listen to the Dao, one had to cross the Outer Heavenly Astral Wind. This required not only spiritual treasures for protection, but also cultivation at the Golden Immortal Realm—both were indispensable.
Li Yu already met one of the conditions, and what remained was to elevate his cultivation to the Golden Immortal Realm as quickly as possible.
Although Mount Kunlun gathered many congenital beings, the mountain itself was vast, so finding a suitable immortal cave was not difficult.
Weakwater lay north of Kunlun, so Li Yu found a place suitable for secluded cultivation in the northern part of Mount Kunlun. A platform of a hundred zhang in radius protruded from the cliff face, facing east where he could watch the purple qi coming from the east and the churning sea of clouds. Most marvelous of all, an old pine tree grew upon it, its branches and leaves lush.
Li Yu took a fancy to the spot at first glance. After spending some effort to build a thatched cottage there, he settled down and began days of quiet cultivation.
Even though the Dao Ancestor had not yet preached the Dao and the Wild Continent lacked a complete cultivation system, the congenital spiritual treasure Twelve-Petal Pure World White Lotus that accompanied Li Yu contained cultivation methods that allowed one to cultivate all the way to the Golden Immortal Realm.
Not only that, even more precious was that the Pure World White Lotus also contained the Great Dao available for comprehension, which was the key to achieving the Golden Immortal.
Although all were congenital spiritual treasures, distinctions of high and low indeed existed, and the Pure World White Lotus was the rarest and most precious kind among them. That was why it naturally carried profound cultivation methods and contained the Great Dao; ordinary congenital spiritual treasures at most possessed only cultivation methods.
The years of the Wild Continent were like a shuttle, time flying swiftly.
Li Yu long ago lost count of how many years he had been born into the Wild Continent. Most of the time, he considered himself a native-born living being of the Wild Continent.
One day, Li Yu, who was practicing in seclusion, suddenly erupted with a powerful aura that made one shudder, yet it vanished in a flash.
Li Yu slowly exhaled a breath of pure air and opened his eyes. Although his expression was calm as water, his heart had long since rippled with waves—years of bitter cultivation had finally borne fruit, achieving the Golden Immortal Dao Fruit.
Although he had merely entered the Golden Immortal Realm, the Great Dao was at last within reach!
Emerging from the thatched cottage, it was just as the eastern sun rose, casting myriad streaks of golden light that dyed the sea of clouds in a layer of gold.
Watching the slowly rising Sun Star, Li Yu could not help thinking of the two demon clan mighty figures: one was Di Jun, the future Demon Emperor, born with the Hetu Luoshu; the other was Taiyi, the later Eastern Emperor, born with the Chaos Bell.
These two would also be among the throng listening to the Dao at the Purple Cloud Palace, proper mighty figures of the Wild Continent, yet under the tribulation, they would ultimately perish and their souls would scatter.
For a moment, Li Yu's state of mind, which had just experienced a trace of smug joy over achieving the Golden Immortal Dao Fruit, spawned a hint of sorrow.
To transcend the Heavenly Dao and remain untrapped by tribulations was a long and arduous road indeed!
After watching the sunrise for a moment, Li Yu transformed into a ray of rosy light and flew toward the south of Kunlun.
During these years, aside from cultivation, Li Yu had also made two friends: one was Hongyun, and the other was Zhen Yuanzi.
Both of these men would later become mighty figures of the Wild Continent, except that Hongyun had rather poor karmic luck and perished early on.
Regarding the death of Hongyun, Li Yu had never been able to figure it out. The whole matter was like an insoluble mystery, shrouded in a layer of mist that one could not see through.
Why did Hongyun only give a wisp of Primordial Purple Qi to Hongyun and not to Kunpeng? After Hongyun died, where did this Primordial Purple Qi go?
From beginning to end, the whole affair seemed orchestrated simply to kill Hongyun. Yet Hongyun was merely a congenital being, with nothing special about him compared to other congenital beings.
Why must Hongyun die? And why die in such a senseless manner?
Now that coincidence had led Li Yu to befriend this Daoist Hongyun, the notion of uncovering the truth behind this matter arose in him. If possible, he did not mind stepping in to save Hongyun, even if it might offend the future Western saint Zhunti and the demon master Kunpeng.
Most importantly, saving Hongyun was equivalent to slightly altering the established operation of the Heavenly Dao. Li Yu also wanted to take the opportunity to see what kind of effect it would cause. Anyway, according to the major trends of the Wild Continent that he knew well, a saintly fortuitous encounter was definitely unrelated to him. Since that was the case, he might as well stir things up a little; perhaps he would reap unexpected gains.
Along his journey, Li Yu flew past the Three Pure Ones' Courtyard. This was the place of quiet cultivation for the three Daoist saints before they attained sainthood, occupying the essence of Mount Kunlun.
The other congenital beings of Mount Kunlun raised no objections to this, for the three men were transformed from the primordial spirit of Pangu, a background matched by very few. More importantly, however, the fists of these three men were bigger.
Li Yu estimated that the Three Pure Ones had probably long since stepped into the Golden Immortal Realm, their cultivation unfathomable. In particular, Taishang, the head of the Three Pure Ones, was likely at the Golden Immortal perfection, waiting only to listen to the Dao at the Purple Cloud Palace before stepping into the Quasi-Saint realm.
Such mighty figures were terrifying just to think about.
The Three Pure Ones never asked about outside matters while on Mount Kunlun, nor did they actively interact with other living beings, appearing immensely arrogant. Although other beings had some minor complaints, none dared to voice them loudly. After Yuqing Yuanshi attained sainthood, apart from the dao lineages of the Chan Sect and the Human Sect, all other mighty figures would successively leave Mount Kunlun to seek separate dao fields.
Over the years, Li Yu had once knocked on the gates of the Three Pure Ones' Courtyard, but only that once. After a brief casual conversation with the Three Pure Ones, he took his leave and departed. Their mutual friendship could only be considered an acquaintance through nodding nods, falling far short of deep.
Therefore, passing by the Three Pure Ones' Courtyard, Li Yu did not stop and flew straight past.
