Background
Li Yu transmigrated to the Wild Continent and awakened on Weakwater atop the Twelve-Petal Pure World White Lotus. Recognized by the Heavenly Dao as an innate lifeform, he began life at the Primordial Immortal Realm and carried a cultivation method leading to the Golden Immortal Realm. He established a simple retreat on Mount Kunlun, attained the Golden Immortal Dao Fruit, and began treating the Primordial World as his home rather than merely the world into which he had arrived 1.
Possessing foreknowledge of future calamities, Li Yu became determined to avoid being swept away by fate. His concern for the eventual deaths of powerful figures, especially his friend Hongyun, drove many of his early choices: he cultivated cautiously, concealed his strongest treasure when possible, and considered intervening in outcomes he believed were predetermined 1 5.
After leaving Kunlun, Li Yu traveled widely through the Primordial World. He visited Wa Palace with Hongyun, where Fuxi’s divination found only chaos when examining Li Yu’s fate. Fuxi consequently treated him with unusual warmth and gave him a tortoiseshell treasure that could indicate fortune and misfortune 3.
Li Yu eventually claimed an immortal island in the Eastern Sea as his dojo. There he cultivated Bitter Bamboo, accepted Black Armor as the island’s guardian, and built connections with nearby cultivators such as the Three Xiao Sisters 10 13.
Appearance
Fuxi describes Li Yu as handsome and possessing extraordinary origins. He commonly travels by transforming into a streak of rosy light and is often depicted carrying or wielding spiritual treasures rather than relying on ornate external display 3 4.
- Calm expression, described as “still as water” even when emotionally stirred 1.
- Uses a restrained, unassuming manner around major powers despite his strength 5 29.
- Frequently conceals his true capabilities and most powerful treasures 5.
Personality
Li Yu is cautious, observant, and intensely aware that strength alone cannot guarantee survival during a great calamity. He often weighs fate against intervention, preferring to prepare quietly rather than attract unnecessary attention. Even after becoming a Quasi-Saint, he investigates gifts and treasures for hidden schemes rather than accepting them without suspicion 1 7 15.
He is also direct when facing arrogance or injustice. Ran Deng, Zhunti, Minghe, and the Demon Race all provoke a decisive response when they attempt to seize his possessions or harm those under his protection. His willingness to pursue Zhunti across much of the Primordial World became widely known, while his sealing of the Blood Sea began from outrage at the theft of Human Race souls 11 30.
Despite his guarded nature, Li Yu values friendship and personal choice. He helps Hongyun, Zhen Yuanzi, Fuxi, Nüwa, and the Three Xiao Sisters without demanding repayment; allows Lu Xue to remain with the Azure Ox; and repeatedly encourages Black Armor, Red Boy, Zhu Lingzi, and Haotian to pursue their own paths 8 18 23 45 50.
Abilities & Skills
Independent New Dao
Li Yu possesses a Dao distinct from Hongjun’s established Primordial Great Dao. Its nature is difficult for others to understand or calculate, and it can support effects beyond conventional cultivation paths 7 17.

Chaos Qi Manipulation
Li Yu draws and uses Chaos Qi stored within his Innate Gourd. It is a major source of his offensive power and a resource he has used to nurture spiritual roots 11 31.
- Destroyed Zhunti’s Dharma body and damaged the Seven-Treasure Wondrous Tree without relying on a spirit treasure 11.
- Captured Yuantu during the battle against Minghe 20.
- Nourished Bitter Bamboo, contributing to its eventual transformation into Zhu Lingzi 11 28 36.
- Its supply is limited and cannot be readily replaced 49.
Divination
Although Fuxi could not divine Li Yu’s own fate, Li Yu can perform calculations and divinations of his own 3 37.
- Used Fuxi’s tortoiseshell to locate the Bitter Bamboo 9.
- Identified the Demon Race’s use of Human Race souls to forge the Witch-Slaying Sword 37.
- Uses divination cautiously, knowing that heavenly secrets may be obscured or that excessive interference can create complications 16 32.
Teaching and Guidance
Li Yu is capable of instructing cultivators beneath the Golden Immortal Realm and offers practical guidance rather than seeking formal discipleship 16.
- Explained the path to the Golden Immortal Dao Fruit to Yunxiao, Qiongxiao, and Bixiao 16.
- Guided Red Boy’s growth by granting him the Cosmos Ruler and supporting his role as humanity’s protector 23 28.
- Taught Haotian basic sword forms, martial arts, and breathing techniques while avoiding interference with his destined tribulation 48 50.
