Ch. 541Homeward Bound, Nagato's Death!
Plot points and events
- Riu removes the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path from Nagato and uses the chakra stored in his Yang Seal to draw the Divine Tree out of Nagato’s body. He then severs and sends the tree into the Kamui dimension.
- Near death, Nagato asks to use the Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique to revive those killed in the war. Riu agrees, but stops Black Zetsu from interfering.
- Nagato performs the technique, bringing back fallen shinobi and White Zetsu across the battlefield. At headquarters, Shikaku orders the Allied Forces to capture the revived White Zetsu rather than kill them.
- Konan is also revived and tries to reach Nagato. Riu summons her to him using the chakra he had previously placed in her, allowing her to say goodbye.
- Nagato dies after speaking with Konan.
Character developments and interactions
- Nagato acknowledges that he betrayed Yahiko’s dream and asks to make amends by reviving the war dead. His final act offers some redemption, though he dies burdened by remorse.
- Riu shows both caution and compassion: he prevents Black Zetsu from exploiting Nagato’s technique, yet honors Nagato’s request and gives Konan a chance to see him.
- Konan shares responsibility for failing to stop Nagato, but promises to continue atoning and preserving their former dream. She comforts him by affirming that Yahiko would not condemn him.
- Shikaku quickly adapts to the confusing aftermath, choosing capture over further killing.
