Chapter 21
When his body was swept up in the alpha's arms, Ye Nanxun's mind went blank for a moment.
Like an old computer, he processed things slowly. It was not until Yan Beiyou carried him into the building that he realized what had just happened.
He opened his mouth, wanting to ask the other man to put him down.
But the instant he spoke, he stalled because he suddenly did not know how to address him.
Ye Nanxun: "Your Majes..."
As they reached the private rooms, a series of intermittent, ambiguous sounds drifted out from one of them.
His pale green eyes widened instantly, and the words on the tip of his tongue were swallowed back down.
Ye Nanxun did not even dare move.
He was a shut-in and had never dated, but he still knew some things.
For example, what the sounds coming from that private room meant.
Yan Beiyou paused, silently carrying the stiff young man away from the private rooms and into the elevator.
The elevator doors closed, leaving only the two of them in the cramped space.
Just as Ye Nanxun was about to speak, Yan Beiyou interrupted him again.
"I remember telling you my name," Yan Beiyou said, lifting his chin slightly as he watched the changing elevator numbers. "My surname is Yan—the yan in wild geese flying south."
Ye Nanxun considered the meaning of those words before cautiously saying, "Mr. Yan?"
When the elevator doors opened, Yan Beiyou gave a quiet hum.
Ye Nanxun curled his hands against his chest. "Mr. Yan, I can walk by myself. There's no need to trouble you..."
Beyond the elevator doors was the entrance hall.
Yan Beiyou carried the omega forward in long strides. "I've been on the battlefield."
A trace of confusion appeared on Ye Nanxun's face. He looked up but could only see the alpha's sharply defined, handsome jaw.
Bending down, Yan Beiyou placed the puzzled omega on the living room sofa and looked into Ye Nanxun's clear, beautiful green eyes. "What I mean is, I know better than a doctor how to assess someone's injuries."
For that instant their eyes met, Ye Nanxun felt as though he had fallen into a pitch-black sea.
The eye contact lasted only a moment.
Yan Beiyou quickly straightened and strode toward a room nearby. "You sprained your ankle. The bone is out of place."
Only two or three minutes had probably passed before Yan Beiyou returned to Ye Nanxun's sight.
The tall alpha had taken off his black suit jacket. His long fingers undid the buttons at his shirt cuffs, then he rolled his sleeves up twice, exposing a section of lean, smoothly muscled forearm.
Yan Beiyou crouched halfway down, his tailored suit trousers stretched taut.
The fine fabric clung tightly to his thigh muscles, making him look especially powerful.
Yan Beiyou reached for the omega's ankle. "I'll deal with it simply first. The doctor will be here soon."
Ye Nanxun instinctively drew his foot back slightly and stammered, "Your Majes... Mr. Yan, there's no need to trouble yourself. I can do it myself..."
But merely pulling his foot back caused another wave of pain to rise from his ankle.
His breath trembled lightly, and a fine layer of cold sweat formed on his forehead.
Yan Beiyou said, "Don't be afraid."
Those two simple words were spoken evenly, without much emotion, yet they somehow dispersed the unease in Ye Nanxun's heart.
Ye Nanxun lowered his head, his slender, pale hands tightly clutching the rabbit-fur blanket spread over the sofa. "Thank you for the trouble."
The luxurious, spacious living room fell into silent stillness.
Yan Beiyou knelt beside the omega and removed the shoe and sock from Ye Nanxun's injured foot.
It was a thin, delicate foot, its toes lightly touching the floor. It was fair and unblemished, without even the slightest scar. The toenails were neatly trimmed and a healthy pale pink.
His already slender ankle was now red and swollen.
Yan Beiyou observed it quietly for a moment, then took out a bottle of spray from the medical kit he had brought over earlier.
Before using it, the alpha glanced up at Ye Nanxun. "It relieves pain and swelling."
Ye Nanxun nodded. "Mm."
"Excuse me," Yan Beiyou said.
A scorching warmth touched the sensitive sole of his foot, and Ye Nanxun's fingers curled slightly inward around the rabbit-fur blanket.
Cradling the omega's sole in one hand, holding it loosely, Yan Beiyou used his other hand to spray the medicine onto Ye Nanxun's injured ankle.
The icy spray made his foot twitch involuntarily.
The moment it moved, Yan Beiyou tightened his hold slightly. The force was not enough to hurt him, but it firmly secured his foot and prevented Ye Nanxun from injuring himself again.
Compared to the omega's, Yan Beiyou's healthy wheat-colored fingers looked thick, long, and rough as they held that patch of smooth, luminous white.
Roughness and softness, wheat color and luminous white.
The contrast was striking.
Yan Beiyou lowered his head to look, then released the foot in his hand without hesitation.
Several faint red finger marks had appeared distinctly across that fair instep, making it look pitiful.
Yan Beiyou stood up. "Did I just hurt you by gripping too hard?"
Ye Nanxun saw his own instep as well. He shook his head. "No. My skin just... marks easily."
He added, "It doesn't hurt."
A doctor and nurse arrived soon afterward.
Ye Nanxun's ankle was sprained and the bone had shifted, though fortunately the displacement was not severe.
With current advanced medical technology, surgery was unnecessary. However, after his ankle was bandaged, Ye Nanxun needed to rest for at least a week. During that time, he could not put weight on his foot and could only use a wheelchair.
Holding a portable scanner, the guard who had just scanned Ye Nanxun's injured area said, "Were any other places injured? Just in case, we should give you a full-body scan. It'll be quick."
Yan Beiyou made the decision for Ye Nanxun. "Scan him."
The guard looked at Ye Nanxun. "Sir, your shoulder is injured too. It isn't serious, but it would be best to treat it."
The nurse handed the scanner to the doctor beside her.
The doctor pushed up his glasses. "A little spray will be enough."
The injury was on his right shoulder. Zhu Shixin had deliberately rammed into him from behind that day. An SS-class alpha's strength was no joke.
It had not been severe enough to damage muscle or dislocate bone, but it had still not fully healed after several days.
Yan Beiyou saw the injury on Ye Nanxun's shoulder through the scanner as well.
Just as the doctor was about to treat Ye Nanxun, Yan Beiyou had the doctor and nurse leave.
Neither the doctor nor the nurse had said an unnecessary word or shown any expression when they arrived, and they were the same when they left.
As for Yan Beiyou suddenly refusing to let the doctor treat his shoulder, Ye Nanxun remained calm throughout.
That made Yan Beiyou look at the young omega again.
From their brief interactions in the past, Ye Nanxun seemed to be someone emotionally steady, calm, and reserved.
"Song Ren will be here shortly. He'll treat your shoulder and check your body while he's at it." Yan Beiyou sat in a nearby armchair.
Confusion appeared in Ye Nanxun's eyes. "Check my body?"
Yan Beiyou said, "There's something I need to discuss with you."
As he spoke, the alpha took a white egg with black markings from his pocket.
