"Kisame?"
Mei Terumi's gaze shifted behind her, where she saw a figure leap down from the treetops.
There was neither sorrow nor joy on his face. When his gaze fell on Mei Terumi, however, it carried a trace of apology. He bowed slightly and said:
"My apologies, Fifth Mizukage-sama, but I can no longer serve you. I have no way to further improve my strength in the village. After the battle just now, I realized that only by following the enemy before us can I take my strength to the next level."
Those words meant that Kisame Hoshigaki would no longer be a shinobi of Kirigakure from this day onward. Instead, he would become a rogue shinobi who needed to be issued an S-rank kill-on-sight order!
Such a dramatic scene had actually unfolded right before the Fifth Mizukage. Mei Terumi only wanted to use Lava Release to melt the traitor before her into a pool of blood. Gritting her teeth, she said:
"Do you know what you're saying? You're betraying your own village! We worked so hard to overthrow the Fourth Mizukage's rule. We should be working together to rebuild, not stabbing each other in the back. Yet you're openly rebelling and even joining the ranks of today's attackers!"
Kisame Hoshigaki acknowledged that she was an immensely charismatic leader, but he held no attachment to the village. His duty in the village had always been to serve as a weapon and complete the tasks assigned to him. As for whether he lived or died, the village had never cared.
Moreover, the Fifth Mizukage had been in power for too short a time to earn much recognition from Kisame. Especially after seeing her suppressed by a group of people today, he understood that Kirigakure like this could not possibly help him
