History

Yonglu Mountain has stood for several thousand years and was founded around a high-grade spiritual artifact capable of evaluating sect tasks and assigning contribution-point rewards 23 27.

A former sect master instituted the current three-day adjustment period before master selection after accepting disciples based solely on aptitude. One such disciple reached the Nascent Soul Realm but remained too timid to leave the sect, convincing the sect that temperament must be assessed alongside talent 25.

The founding patriarch also left behind an array plate that was later converted into Juyong Hall, one of the sect’s most important ceremonial and administrative halls 141.

Although Yonglu Mountain is formally fourth among the Five Great Sects, its lower rank does not reflect a lack of strength. Its comparatively unruly temperament, lack of interest in ranking politics, and refusal to assume broader responsibility for overseeing the cultivation world have contributed to its reputation as the “lowest-ranked” great sect 163 416 677.

Yonglu Mountain has a fixed entrance to the Boundary Sea, though it has remained sealed and unused for several centuries 335.

Location and Layout

Yonglu Mountain occupies the point where a spiritual vein in the Yonglu Mountain Range gathers most densely. Its grand formation also covers Spiritual Eyes, allowing cultivation within the sect to proceed at least twenty percent faster than outside 26.

• Sect Master Peak — Central peak with the densest spiritual energy; seat of Sect Master Gu Wufang and major sect deliberations 27.
• Juyong Hall — A solemn hall suspended above the mountain peaks opposite the main gate. It is reached by a steep cloud stairway, serves as the site of master selection and major ceremonies, and is ordinarily accessible only to elders and the sect master 139.

The mountain-protecting grand formation regulates the weather within the sect, allowing rain to fall only where it is needed. Wen Xu’s Wind Spiritual Root later allowed him to perceive its structure through the movement of the wind 140 296.

The Yonglu Mountain Range itself contains many smaller sects and cultivation settlements under Yonglu Mountain’s protection, including Langyuan City 11 227.

Administration and Membership

Sect Master Gu Wufang leads Yonglu Mountain and oversees matters including recruitment, elder disputes, and master selection 13 27.

The sect’s inner structure is comparatively loose. Any cultivator who reaches the Golden Core Realm may establish and name a small peak if they can afford the required contribution points 19 27.

Yonglu Mountain’s disciples are largely expected to direct their own cultivation. The sect provides resources, masters, and opportunities, but regards a disciple’s progress as dependent primarily upon talent and self-discipline 33.

A sect master’s personal disciple is treated as a potential successor to Yonglu Mountain. For this reason, Gu Wufang values character and leadership potential above raw aptitude when considering potential disciples 260.

The sect imposes few restrictions on disciple attire. Disciples may modify their robes, add formations or talismans, and alter their style freely, provided the Yonglu Mountain emblem remains visible on the sleeves 35.

Yonglu Mountain also generally permits disciples to take leave and visit their families, provided they have legitimate reasons and follow the required procedures 90.

Recruitment System

Yonglu Mountain recruits once every six years and accepts fewer disciples than the other great sects, making admission competitive despite its comparatively inclusive policies 2 11.

Entrance Trials

The sect permits Qi Refining–level talismans, pills, and magical artifacts in the Mountain Examination, but forbids high-grade artifacts and killing. Shadow Walls monitor the examination and enforce its rules 15.

Yonglu Mountain treats unexpected circumstances as part of the test rather than automatically invalidating them. When an unofficial artifact entered the Mountain Examination by mistake, its elders allowed the trial to continue because adaptability was a core quality they sought 20.

Recruitment arrangements may change according to the availability of sect resources. During the following recruitment cycle, the first trial was moved to a spirit-beast secret space because the Fragrant Elixir King Grass in the Cloud-Breaking Secret Realm had not matured 260.

The sect’s entrance examinations are known for being flexible and unpredictable, with changing trials and unexpected circumstances making previous examinations unreliable guides for later candidates 704.

Recruitment Philosophy

Yonglu Mountain is known for accepting cultivators whom stricter sects might reject. Unlike the first-ranked Harmony Sect, it may accept even four- or five-spiritual-root cultivators if they show exceptional talent 9.

Candidates who complete all three entrance trials are accepted regardless of their spiritual-root results; exceptional roots may qualify a disciple for the inner sect immediately 23.

The sect also recognizes fortune and initiative. Elder Zhao Qi ruled that Wen Xu’s unregistered entry into the Cloud-Breaking Secret Realm did not violate any declared rule, stating that Yonglu Mountain would not reject someone who obtained an opportunity through their own fortune 14.

Yonglu Mountain does not accept disciples who arrive with preexisting sect lineages or cultivation inheritances, though extraordinary exceptions may be made for figures of exceptional value 14.

The sect’s selectivity has increased with the success of its recent disciples. During the following recruitment cycle, only three Inner Sect disciples were accepted, two fewer than in Wen Xu’s cohort 260.

Yonglu Mountain combines generous resources, loose internal administration, and high expectations for self-reliance. Its disciples are encouraged to pursue their own paths, but the sect’s recent generation has created an intensely competitive atmosphere in which even accomplished senior disciples cultivate relentlessly 33 260.

The sect is notably protective of its own members. When two Golden Core cultivators ambushed Wen Xu, Bian Chunchou, and Chen Zui, Zhao Qi pursued the matter directly into Baigu City, demanded accountability, and refused to accept gifts or evasions in place of justice 300 303.

This protectiveness gives the Yonglu Mountain name considerable weight outside the sect. Cultivators generally understand that attacking or impersonating a Yonglu Mountain disciple can bring serious retaliation from the sect’s elders 416 573.

The accomplishments of Wen Xu, Bian Chunchou, Chen Zui, and their allies have transformed Yonglu Mountain into a major symbol of opportunity for young cultivators. Their public fame has increased enrollment pressure, inspired imitators throughout the Cultivation Realm, and made the sect’s recruitment period a highly anticipated event 492 545 704.
