The only comfort Wester could take was that, at least, Archmage Rute had not treated him like trash to be kicked aside. Otherwise, given Gilbert's usual dislike of trouble, he would never have opened the door for him.

For matters truly important enough that Gilbert had to know about and follow through on, Tower Master Rute would certainly send a student older than Gilbert to notify him personally.

For the direct disciples of these Tower Masters, they could ignore everything else. The person who needed to resolve this matter was Wester himself.

In the past, whenever faced with this sort of situation, Wester would send these direct-line Mages a small gift according to the urgency of the matter, along with information they needed to know... though, in truth, he had not encountered such situations very often.

For years, the apprentices of the Black Mystery Tower had been in a half-dead state. Otherwise, it would not have fallen to someone of his middling status to occupy this position.

This time, however, was completely different.

Wester could sense the tense atmosphere... between Tower Master Nicholson, who had already returned, and Rute, who was still outside yet had an overwhelming presence, there was clearly some friction.

With so many factions inside the Mage Tower, how could there be no power struggles? They had merely been suppressed beneath the surface by an appearance of calmness... by the time everyone learned the outcome, the undercurrents beneath the sea would already have subsided.

Unfortunately, Wester's only hope, Kament, the Archmage of his teacher's teacher, clearly intended to watch for a while first.
