Rute had stormed straight into the Defense Tower's Refugee Camp primarily to make it clear to the Undead that he was a victim too, and that they should trust him to fight the Despair Tower and the mastermind behind it to the bitter end. But another reason was that this place had exposed far too much and was, for the moment, the easiest enemy to deal with.
The more troublesome foes had already been swept away by the Undead and the Demon Prince... otherwise, even if Rute knew there were clues here, could he have come to collect them?
Rute could not match the combat prowess Demogorgon had displayed even in his dreams.
So, although Felis could not understand why the Undead described the whole affair in such filthy terms, he understood how this outcome had come about.
In fact, Felis knew perfectly well why, apart from Rute, the other Mage Towers had held back even though they too wanted to investigate the Despair Tower... whether or not they had once colluded with it, now that the Despair Tower had become the villain of the entire world, whoever seized the chance to suppress or even destroy it could easily rise to become the world's foremost tower.
How could the Despair Tower's many years of glory not have inspired envy, jealousy, and resentment?
Its ability to plant agents in all the Mage Towers was not merely a matter of subtle methods and sinister schemes. It also had something to do with those towers not being particularly eager to investigate.
Everyone knew how things worked. If Sia Tower could do it, then of course the Despair Tower could too.
If they insisted on getting to the bottom of everything, wouldn't they end up like the Defense Tower and the Black Enigma Tower?
