"Bing'er, let's go in."
Xue Ningbing gave a soft snort. "Since you called me Bing'er, we'll go in."
Huo Yuhao and Xue Ningbing entered Shrek Academy's outer courtyard with their few belongings.
They followed the massive statues of the Shrek Seven Monsters and Shrek's three dean-level figures, heading left along a broad road wide enough for countless carriages to travel side by side.
A small sign stood by the roadside, engraved with four large characters: Lakeside Path.
Through the green trees to the right of the sign, they could vaguely see a vast expanse of water. It was an enormous lake.
Sea God Lake? Huo Yuhao vaguely remembered having many memories of Sea God Lake. The first time he met Elder Sister Xiaotao had been here.
He wondered whether he might meet Elder Sister Xiaotao here again this time.
Xue Ningbing gazed at Sea God Lake in silence, seemingly lost in thought.
Relying on his memories of Shrek Academy in this era, Huo Yuhao led Xue Ningbing south along the Lakeside Path. After walking for roughly fifteen minutes, they turned west. Another fifteen minutes later, the path began to narrow inward.
Before Huo Yuhao and Xue Ningbing lay a rectangular plaza. A sign beside it was engraved with the words Shrek Square.
Beyond the red kapok trees of Shrek Square stood towering teaching buildings, their colors respectively white, yellow, purple, and black.
Xue Ningbing looked at the buildings before her in surprise. "I never expected the teaching buildings to be constructed according to the colors of soul rings. That's really rare."
Huo Yuhao said nothing and merely nodded.
Since it was the period for new student registration, most of the people here were freshmen who had just finished enrolling.
The freshmen's dormitories were all behind the teaching buildings.
The dormitory buildings were colored just like the teaching buildings, also following the colors of soul rings.
An old man lay in a wheelchair at the entrance to the dormitory building.
He wore a gray cloth robe. The wrinkles on his face were deep enough to crush more than a dozen flies at once, his eyes were cloudy, and his eyelids drooped. He looked as though he were at death's door.
All the students passing by ignored the old man completely, not sparing him a glance.
The old man did not seem to care much either, as though he had long since grown used to it.
Yet the instant Huo Yuhao saw him, he recognized the old man's true identity: the master of Sea God Pavilion, Dragon God Douluo Mu En, who had also been Huo Yuhao's teacher in the past.
Seeing his teacher again, Huo Yuhao shed a few tears while Xue Ningbing was not paying attention.
Huo Yuhao walked forward with Xue Ningbing and politely said, "Hello, Grandpa. I'm a newly admitted first-year student. Do you need me to take out my freshman badge for inspection?"
Hearing him, the old man did not raise his head. He extended his trembling right hand and said in a hoarse, low voice, "Take out your dormitory key and freshman badge."
Just as before, after looking over Huo Yuhao's key, Mu En told him about the dormitory rules and what was forbidden there.
After taking back his key and badge, Huo Yuhao thanked him. "Thank you, Grandpa."
The old man still did not raise his head. "Little girl, do you need me to check yours as well?"
Seeing Huo Yuhao nod, Xue Ningbing said, "Then I'll trouble you, sir."
As she spoke, Xue Ningbing handed her freshman key and badge to the old man.
"Dormitory 408 is the third room on the left side of the fourth floor."
"Thank you."
After Huo Yuhao and Xue Ningbing left, the old man murmured weakly, "Are these the two geniuses Yan Shaozhe mentioned? They seem quite polite, though that young girl is somewhat mysterious."
In the stairwell.
Xue Ningbing reminded Huo Yuhao, "That old man's identity should be far from simple. Yuhao, you should have less contact with him."
Huo Yuhao pretended not to understand. "Hm?"
Xue Ningbing said, "Don't play dumb with me. I don't believe you couldn't sense it. Earlier, I wanted to probe that old man's exact strength, but no matter how I investigated, I still couldn't fathom it."
Huo Yuhao smiled. "Then, Bing'er, guess why I was trying to make a good impression on that old man."
Xue Ningbing was no fool. Her little mind quickly turned over the matter, and she said, "You mean that old man might be one of Shrek's higher-ups?"
Huo Yuhao nodded. "Looks like your brain isn't completely useless."
The moment she heard Huo Yuhao call her stupid, Xue Ningbing became unhappy.
"Hmph, you called me stupid?" Before Huo Yuhao could react, Xue Ningbing leaped up and gave him a hard knock on the head.
"Bing'er, you hit way too hard." Huo Yuhao clutched his aching head. She clearly looked like a petite young girl, yet she was unbelievably strong.
That was unreasonable. Completely unreasonable.
"You deserved it. I should head to my dormitory now. Maybe my roommate has arrived. Bye-bye." After saying goodbye to Huo Yuhao, Xue Ningbing headed to the fourth floor.
Huo Yuhao, meanwhile, held his swollen head as he made his way to Dormitory 108.
Looking at the familiar yet unfamiliar dormitory from his freshman days, Huo Yuhao muttered, "Looks like my roommate this time should still be Wang Donger."
"This time, I'm going to give you a huge surprise, Donger."
As he spoke, a mischievous smile appeared on Huo Yuhao's lips.
When he opened the door, the inside was just like in his previous life—filthy with dust.
Fortunately, things were different this time. He had a purple item from the system: a household cleaning tool. With it, this room would become spotless, as good as new.
About half a minute later, Huo Yuhao had cleaned the entire room thoroughly.
Even the air was fresh, without the slightest unpleasant odor.
Lying on the bed, Huo Yuhao did not immediately begin cultivating. Instead, he chose to open the system interface.
He brought up the hundred consecutive draws he had saved over four years.
At the same time, Huo Yuhao claimed the single draw reward for completing the mission, Absolute Strength: Enter Shrek Academy.
Huo Yuhao now had a full 101 draws.
"I hope my luck is a little better this time. Could it be that the last ten-pull was lucky because Qiu'er was beside me? That would be ridiculous."
As for the hundred consecutive draws he had obtained, Huo Yuhao decided to go all in.
Single draw, ten-pull, hundred-pull.
Huo Yuhao decided to use that single draw first.
Sure enough, just as Huo Yuhao had expected, that one draw was trash.
Looking at the hundred-pull, Huo Yuhao took a deep breath and tapped it.
Huo Yuhao was no longer as surprised by golden light as he had been at first. If this hundred-pull did not produce gold, then what use was having the title of auspicious beast?
